The Ebola crisis in River State appears far from over. This is judging from the recent exchange between the Chairman of the Rivers State Teachers Union and the Rivers State Government. Information available to 247ureports.com indicate that the National Union of Teachers [NUT] has given an ultimatum to the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi to reverse the decision to reopen schools or certify the 447 Ebola suspects being held under quarantine, as Ebola free.
According to the statement of the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the NUT, Godfrey Wogu, the government of Rivers State should first handle the situation at hand – which is the 447 Ebola suspects – currently in isolation for observation – before talking about reopening schools.
247ureports.com learnt that the said 447 Ebola suspects were those individuals who had primary and secondary contacts with the late Dr. Iyke, his wife and sister.
The Rivers State government has yet to respond to the Teacher’s union.
