> *promises to liberate citizens from servitude, mass employment
>
> An apparent administrative mixup by some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) which resulted in the exclusion of its flagbearer of the Mega Progressive Peoples’s Party(MPPP), Dr Leo Eleanya in Anambra state from the recent published list of governorship candidates for the Nov16 election in the state has forced the party to go to court for immediate redress.
>
> The party, according to its acting state chairman, Kenneth Okafor, “we have given the INEC an ultimatum that would end today at noon within which to correct the error, or face legal action…”
>
> Okafor who addressed the media yesterday at the party’s Udoka Housing Estate office in Awka disowned the name of one Mr Simon Chinweuba Okafor who according to him was erroneously published as their governorship flagbearer. He stated that the membership records of the party has no such a name or person as card-carrying member.
>
> He said that Dr Eleanya contested the party’s primary and won, which was witnessed by the various stakeholders including the INEC and other security agencies in Awka. That the party consequently forwarded his name formally to the INEC. So they were left speechless when an unknown name was later published by the commission as the party’s candidate.
>
> In a press statement he read out to journalists in Awka, the party chairman showed all the acknowledgement letters that the commission issued to the party when the authentic candidate’s name was forwarded to their office. Also the national secretary of the party, Hon Hamisu San Turaki has written a strongly-worded protest letter to the INEC headquarters where he again bitterly complained about the blunder.
>
> Okafor disclosed also that copy of their protest letter was sent to the Anambra state Commissioner of Police, state Director of State Security Service, National Orientstion Agency and others.
>
> On whether they have any faction or problem within the state chapter, Okafor said no. Dr Eleanya who has since Wednesday flagged off his campaign promised to uplift the life of every citizen in the state especially the civil servants. He said he would pay a “living wage” to workers, having risen from the rung of the ladder in the state civil service before he retired.
