LAGOS — The management of the Nigerian Law School has launched a formal investigation following the tragic death of Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old student who died after falling from a rooftop at the Lagos campus hostel in Victoria Island.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, throwing the campus community and law students nationwide into mourning.
Confirming the incident in an official statement released on Monday, Aderonke Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration of the Nigerian Law School, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, identifying the deceased as a student originally attached to the Enugu campus of the institution who was currently undergoing her mandatory externship program at the Lagos campus.
“The management of the Nigerian Law School announces with heavy hearts the painful passing of Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old student of our Enugu campus who was on her externship posting at the Lagos campus,” the statement read. “An investigation has commenced to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic rooftop fall.”
According to campus sources, emergency medical assistance was sought immediately following the fall, but the young student was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Law enforcement agencies and campus security officials have cordoned off the affected area of the hostel building to assist the administration in determining the cause of the fall.
The management has extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, assuring that further details will be communicated upon the conclusion of preliminary investigative findings.
