The sleepy town of Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government of Anambra state was rocked to its political foundations at the weekend when political heavyweights, business Mongols, Captains of Industries, students, traders, men and women from all walks of life gathered together for the flag off campaign of Dr. Alex Obiogbolu’s quest for the governorship bid of the state.
The epoch making declaration of interest in the governorship race by the renowned technocrat took place at the Tourist Garden Hotel Aguleri in what appeared to be a social mix

Chairman of the day, Chief Ben. Emeka said he was overwhelmed by the large turnout of both young and old politicians noted that candidature of Dr. Obiogbolu is an answer to the prayers of lovers of good governance in the state who over the years have been thinking of a credible replacement for the incumbent governor, whose second tenure ends on March 17, 2014
Chief Emeka eulogized the managerial savvy and acumen of Dr Obiogbolu which was fully displayed while he chaired the state’s Local Government Service Commission. He urged all that gathered for the occasion to take the ‘message of hope’ down to the grassroots. He also urged the political class, most of whom he noted have benefited from Obiogbu’s intellectual prowess to rise up now solidly behind him to actualize his aspiration of giving five star governance to the people of the state.
A political chieftain from Nando, Chief Dom Onuigbo noted that it was in the spirit of fairplay, brotherliness and development that the three senatorial zones in the state allow the North where Obiogbolu comes from to produce a replacement for Gov Obi.
Members of the Oganiru Anambra, the political, Chief Osita Ilozue, a former Oyi Local Govt Council chairman in his remarks declared that Forum 99, a political pressure group in the state have carefully xrayed all the people nursing the ambition to govern the state and have decided to back Dr. Obiogbolu whose’s monumental dream and passion for honesty and transparency in governance has remained untainted over the years. “Dr. Alex Obiogbolu is a change agent and since we have all realized that there is need for a positive change, the best thing is to identify with the visioner who can better ‘run’ toward giving us a qualitative governance which will transform the lives of the people who are yearning for a purposeful leadership comes 2014”.
He called on all Anambrarians not to miss the golden opportunity to bring on board an apostle of leadership by example so that the state can take her pride of place among the comity of states
Hon. Osita Ilozue also stressed the need for the other senatorial zones to back up Obigbolu who he said is a star from North in line with the forum’s demand for justice and equity. He noted that zoning though not enshrined in the constitution is in line with the federal character.
The former Speaker of the state Assembly. Hon. Berth Onugbolu agreed on the need for all the political class in Anambra North to support the aspiration of Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, he said that time has come for prophets to start getting some honours at the home front.. Two other former speakers/Chiefs Emeka Anyaenetu and Kanayo Enemo graced the occasion
Obiogbolu, a medical doctor of twenty four years standing however reminded the quality crowd of the need to take the message home even as he pledged not to let the people down if entrusted with their mandate.
