An Abuja based Non-Governmental Organization, Movement for Good Governance in Nigeria (MGGN), has challenged the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed or any of his aides for a nationally televised public debate to debunk allegations of dubious land allocations, threat to peace through obnoxious politicies of demolishing and several financial scandals against his administration in theFederalCapitalTerritory.
In a keynote address delivered at a one day induction course organized by the NGO for its new members held at the conference room of Plaza Hotel, Abuja, Barrister Cletus White, legal advisor to the NGO said, “There are several allegations of various degrees of scandals against the FCT Minister, his blood relations, friends and members of staff of the FCDA that should be thoroughly investigated by the relevant agencies to sanitize the FCT administration and support federal government’s war against corrupt practices and other related offences. Several plots of land were dubiously allocated to even non-existent applicants and dead persons while genuine applications even from federal government establishments were denied allocations as well as earmarking certain towns and villages for demolishing for same plots of land to be re-allocated to private estate developers to extort the same people whose land was confiscated that should not be wished away”, he said
According White, despite several scandals including lopsided appointments to various positions in the FCDA, it was reported in across section of the media that the FCT administration is left at the whims and caprices of the senior brother to the minister which is against the progress of the territory and any conventional setting.
“We read in the newspapers that the senior brother to the minister who was forced to retire from Nigeria Custom Service for fraudulent activities and mental disorder, has hijacked part of his brother ministers’ official functions and in most cases, even presides over land allocations and indirectly controls the FCT staff including the chief of staff just to satisfy his penchant for greed and to protect his interest and that of their family members. The semi lunatic is alleged to be instrumental to the various political appointments in the FCDA including the sack and frustrating several qualified aides that reject his corrupt demands as his hotel bills running into millions are usually settled by the FCDA as a ‘guest’ to the minister.
“If the minister has no skeleton in his cupboard and claims to be sincere and loyal to the Goodluck administration, let him accept our invitation for a public debate to debunk the several allegations and voice out the disciplinary actions he has taken against his aides that were involved in several scandals including his sacked chief of staff, Musa Umar Yashi. The treasury department is enmeshed in several financial scandals just as AGIS is another conduit pipe of corrupt practices”, he said.
Meanwhile all efforts to get across to the Honorable minister, new chief of staff and the media handler of the minister proved abortive as the minister was said to be globe trotting while his media handler’s phone was not going through.
