Some youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, on
Wednesday, cautioned wife of the immediate past governor of Ekiti
State and Minister of Solid Minerals, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, on the
alleged derogatory remark on the people of the State, saying “Ekiti
people deserve length of respect and act of public dancing should not
becloud her moral consciousness.”
The youths, under the aegis of Ekiti APC Youths Congres (EAYC) said
the noble indigenes of the fountain of knowledge cannot continue to
watch while their heritage being trampled upon and rubbished on
political stances.
The statement, jointly signed by the Convener, Mr Tope Ogunkuade and
Secretary, Comrade Tunji Adeleye, and made available to news men
online, read in part; “The Splash, a media outfit, on Tuesday reported
that Erelu Bisi Fayemi described Ekiti people as ‘Mari, Maje.’ On
Wednesday, we read her rejoinder, but not convincing enough.
“Firstly, we want to strongly disagree with Her Excellency that Ekiti
people are not what she called. No, and never shall we be.
“Again, we want to reject the purported rejoinder written by one
Oyebode Olayinka, saying the first lady didn’t call Ekiti people
‘Juice lickers,’ on the ground that such sensitive issue cannot and
must not be reacted to on mere social media.
“Even though we are of the APC, we cannot keep silent when our people
are being roundly insulted our by anyone irrespective of party
affiliation.
“Most importantly, it is a known fact that Erelu Bisi Fayemi’s
overbearing attitude contributed to the collapse of her husband’s
defeat and downfall of the APC in Ekiti State.
“Therefore, we can’t imagine her person allegedly reacting to such
sensitive issue of public concern on social media after she has said
posts on the same medium should not be taken serious. How sincere
should Ekiti now take her remorseful rejoinder,” the youths asked.
The youths also frowned at the utterances referenced to the former
first lady, that reads, “My phones stopped ringing after my husband
lost election in Ekiti; started buzzing again after he got appointed
as minister. Mari, maje ti poju l’Ekiti,” and x-rayed her rejoinder as
flimsy as her utterances.
They said the former first lady never acted as a good leader to Ekiti
women fold when her husband was in government, adding that, “as far as
Ekiti is concerned, morally and academically, dancing was never a
celebrated virtue.
“You don’t need anybody to analyse a woman who boldly said what lies
ahead of women nowadays in politics goes beyond domestic and
matrimonial obligations, before you know she is not well cultured,
primarily as a wife and also a mother in a home.
“Dancing round the street like a ‘clubie’ is not a virtue. And
speaking queen English like ‘the white’ doesn’t connote having moral
standard within.
“It is therefore on these notes that our group want to call on the
former first lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, to publicly apologise to the
entirety of Ekiti people, both within and outside the country, if
truly she was quoted out of context as claimed.”
