The battle line seems to have been drawn between the new entrants into the National Assembly and their old ranking counterparts over principal office positions in the incoming 8th National Assembly.

A member of House of Representstives representing Kazaure/Gwiwa and Yan Kwashi Federal Constituency in Jigawa state,  Hon. Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure  has called on all first term legislators to rise up for their collective interest, saying the first time legislators constitute about 80% majority in the House of Representatives with most them having the needed experience to lead the House

Kazaure told Journalists in Abuja on Sunday, that it would amount to rewarding inefficiency and against the change slogan of APC to allow  old trend to continue

He said, “We must do away with selective injustice in the election of the leadership of the National Assembly. A lot of good brains are here to constitute the 8th Assembly, some coming for the first time and  others were  there. In this respect let’s not dash the hopes of young and vibrant legislators newly elected to form the leadership of the the Assembly.

“It is not written in the constitution it is a rule in the house made by PDP majority. Now APC is majority in the house. So since APC is majority in the house and we promise change and since this is the rule instilled by PDP in order to dictate the rule of the nation, we demand for the rule to be changed.

“And as they say you cannot tore with that rule until after election of the speaker so now they are forcing us that definitely only ranking members can be speaker. If they force us to do that, we are united, the moment we enter the house we will amend the rules and impeach the speaker to bring another speaker among us since we have the majority. And I am sure this is what will happen.”
