Information recently made available to 247ureports.com through sources near the activities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State indicate the appointment process for the next Vice Chancellor to replace the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Boniface Egboka may have been corrupted by the undue influence of the Governor of Imo State, Governor Rochas Okorocha,  Pius Anyim and the shady business mogul, Emeka Ofor.

According to available information, thirty four [34] applicants had submitted their applications for the position of Vice Chancellor – out of which – eight [8] were shortlisted by the governing council of the university. The names of the shortlisted candidates include:-

  1. Prof. Ben C. Osisioma
  2. Prof. Ifeoma B. Enweani
  3. Prof. Ikechukwu Oluka
  4. Prof. Greg Nwakoby
  5. Prof. Azubuike S. Nwankwo
  6. Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku
  7. Prof. Emeka Nwabueze
  8. Prof. Okechukwu Ikpeze

Another screening exercise was further conducted on the shortlisted 8 candidates in order to select the eventual winner as the Vice Chancellor. The screening exercise was conducted by a ‘selection board’ consisting of 8 members: –

  1. Air Vice Marshal Larry Kolnya – Chairman
  2. Senator F. C. Okoro
  3. Alhaji Buhari Bala
  4. Prof. Amobi Ilika
  5. Prof. C. C. Egolum
  6. Dr. N. T. E. Mba
  7. Mrs. E. B. Cinotina
  8. Egah Peter

Following the conclusion of the second screening process an executive summary sheet detailing the scores of each of the 8 interviewed candidates – was generated and signed by each member of the screening board on May 24, 2014. The executive summary sheet in shown below.

Under the category of Curriculum Vital Prof. Ben C. Osisioma [Anambra] scored highest with a score of 45.5% followed by Prof. Greg Nwakoby [Anambra] with a score of 45.25%. Under the category of ‘interaction’, Prof. Greg Nwakoby scored highest with a score 44.4% followed by Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku [Imo] who scored 39.4%. Normally, according to standard operating procedure, Prof. Greg Nwakoby would be named the next Vice Chancellor of the said institution – after presentation of the summary result to the governing council of the university. The procedure does not require the consent of the President as the universities are autonomous to select their VCs without government interference. But the actions of the chairman of the selection committee stunned the members of the committee.

In what appeared a ‘sponsored’ anomaly, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Larry Koinyan [chairman of the selection committee] refused to present the said results to the governing council. Immediately, he left with the results to an unknown location claiming that he had been summoned by the Presidency.

Impeccable sources aware of the ongoings at the said institution point to the undue influence of  [Pius Anyim] SGF, Emeka Ofor and Rochas Okorocha as working to plant Prof. Joseph Ahaneku  who hails from Imo State – as the next vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
