Following the pandemonium at the Living Faith Church [Winners Chapel], Owerri at the early hours of Sunday 16th June, 2014 on the detected explosive devices suspected to be planted by the dreaded Islamic Sect, Boko Haram, the state Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has called on the people of the state to be calm and go about their normal business as everything was under control.
Addressing the press on the bomb scare, at Government House, Owerri, Owelle Okorocha said it was confirmed that there was a planted bomb which had the capacity to go 500 meters range and would have been a disaster if it had exploded as the church where it was planted is located at a densely populated area of the state.
The Governor noted that the daily prayers offered in the state were not in vain and thanked God for saving the lives of his people. He also commended the security outfits in the state for being alert to their duties.
The governor who assured Imo people that the situation was under control noted that Imo State is not known for such ugly incidence and therefore appealed to all Imolites and other Nigerians resident in the state to be more security conscious and alert the police about any suspected objects, vehicles or persons around their vicinity.
He however assured that the state has applied necessary measures to stop further occurrence of the ugly situation.
The governor added that there would be an emergency security meeting at the International convention Centre, Owerri where further security briefing would be made available to all imolites.
He also said that already, some suspects have been arrested while investigation is still going on.
There is palpable tension in Owerri, the Imo state capital following the discovery and defusing of three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) around the expansive Winners Chapel state headquarters along PortHarcourt road, Owerri.
Our reporter who visited the Church Sunday morning saw officials of the church re-directing worshippers to the Heroes Square at the junction leading to the church.
Closer to the church, the Police Bomb Disposable Unit barricaded the church on both ends with police trucks blocking off access to the church from the two approach routes.
When 247ureports.com met the Senior Pastor of the church, Pastor Moses Oyedele for comments, he declined saying he was indisposed to comment on the matter.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem who confirmed the development, told 247ureports.com that the police had taken charge of the situation.
Speaking to newsmen at the scene of the recovery, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali informed that six persons were presently in police custody undergoing interrogation over the incident. He urged residents and churches to be a lot more vigilant as they go about their daily activities and to report any suspicious object or parcel to the nearest security agency.
While some church members said none of the bombs detonated, others insist that a loud bang was heard from around the church in the wee hours of the morning.
One of the church members who craved anonymity told our reporter that a staff of the hotel opposite the church maintains that he heard aloud bang in the small hours of the morning that shook buildings in the neighbourhood.
At the time of filing this report, the Police bomb disposal squad was still sweeping through the massive church premises for bombs.
The church has a sitting capacity in the neighbourhood of 10,000 and houses a nursery and primary school.
Meanwhile, when our reporyer got to the Heroes Square, security was on red alert as several Policemen were sighted around the gate to the emergency worship ground. Men were thoroughly searched while women were made to show the content of the bags. Metal detectors and bomb detectors were fully deployed while the crowd of worshippers sang “The church is marching on and the gates of hell shall not prevail.”
Information reaching 247ureports.com indicates that six persons have been arrested by the security operatives in Owerri, Imo State following the three pipe bombs discovered at a Winners Chapel on early morning hours of Sunday June 15, 2014. This was according to highly placed source in Owerri government house who also confirmed that no injuries were reported.
It is recalled that last month, the home of the former governor of Imo State. Ikedi Ohakim was allegedly bombed by unknown attackers.
The source within government house pointed to the growing fangs of terrorism as the potential cause for the bomb discovery. The source also did not excuse the desperation of the opposition to the Okorocha’s administration. He pointed to the antics of the former governor as indicative of the type of action expected of him.
The arresting security officer was said to be a member of the Church.
The Enugu State Government has said it has commenced the arrest and prosecution of people found trading on the streets or on the newly constructed walk ways and road lay bys in the Enugu capital territory in accordance with an existing ban on street trading.
The State Commissioner in charge of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Engineer Ike Ugwuegede, who disclosed this in a briefing with Government House Correspondents, said the goods seized from offenders will also be forfeited to the government.
The Commissioner said the ban on street trading was among other things, aimed at preserving the environment and infrastructure.
He stated that relevant government agencies have been mandated to search for defaulters and bring them to face the full wrath of the law.
Engineer Ugwuegede therefore warned citizens who are still engaging in the illegal practice to give it up immediately in order to avoid punishment.
Former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday declared that the All Progressive Congress (APC) broom revolution is ready now to sweep the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) out of power in 2015.

Less than 24 hours after successfully conducting its maiden National Convention, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it would converge again in a special convention this November to pick its presidential candidate for the 2015 general election.
Senator Chris Ngige made the announcement on Friday night at the national convention of the party in Abuja.
Already, three top contenders who had engaged in poster war at the convention over the weekend include former military Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar and Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have emerged.
It is also believed that the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwwal, who is yet to defect to APC from PDP, could also be eyeing the top job.
Though, Senator Ngige, did not say the date in November but in the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all parties must hold conventions to pick their presidential candidates by December 11, 2014.
December 18 is the final day for the submission of the names of candidates.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed as “sponsored stories,” reports by a section of the media to the effect that APC had zoned him out of the presidential contest following a new arrangement.
A statement issued by the Atiku Media Office quoted the former Vice President as saying at no time did the party’s Convention Planning Committee or its recently-dissolved Interim National Executive Council (NEC) discuss the issue of zoning of elective offices outside the positions of leadership of the party which he said, were filled at the highly successful convention held on Friday.
“As for the presidential ticket, the position of all organs of the party is that it is open to all Nigerians irrespective of where they come from,” Atiku said.
Arrangements have been concluded on the building of an international market at Mgbidi in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State.

Even if The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, is defeated, the problem of terrorism will not likely be solved for long, particularly if the Iraq’s economy does not improve. It would be just a matter of time before other terrorists move in to take their place. History shows that past defense plans regarding Iraq have failed. These plans were based largely on conjecture, and now we have seen their outcome. The conventional military approach of fighting terrorism lacks a statistical guarantee of success of where a leader like Obama can wisely and safely assert “yes, this approach will definitely work.”
Obviously, it is a dangerous time in Iraq. Civil war looms. This is why it is particularly risky to base one’s military plans on guesswork, as a massive firestorm could erupt, further crippling Iraq’s economic growth. It is already extremely difficult for Iraq to lure international business to assist in boosting its struggling economy. If a full-blown war were to break out in Iraq, this situation would certainly become much worse.
There is a scientifically-validated approach to effectively, efficiently, quickly end turmoil and boost the economy. If Obama has the political will to suggest that the Iraqi military deploy an unusual but effective approach, and they agree. It will no longer be necessary to base defense plans on guesses.
This means of violence removal is based on peer-reviewed research. The approach has been field-tested by militaries and validated by 23 studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Based on 25 years of research, it has been endorsed by independent scientists and scholars.
Where deployed by foreign military circles worldwide, it is known as Invincible Defense Technology (IDT), the Unified Field Technology. The Unified Field effect, IDT, has been statistically proven numerous times to decrease and prevent violence, terrorism, and boost the economy. In 1992, President Joaquim Chissano, Lt. Gen. Tobias Dai, and the Chiefs of Staff of the Mozambique military carefully analyzed the IDT research. They made a unanimous decision to adopt it for their country by training about 3,000 soldiers and 16,000 police.
As predicted, violence disappeared by 1993. Societies using these groups also become more self-sufficient. For instance, in Mozambique the economic growth reached 19%. Once the poorest world country in 1992, by 2000; it had moved up to be the world’s fastest-growing economy.
Militaries worldwide are training military IDT experts. They are creating the Unified Field Technology Quiet Impact Groups. The historical ramifications of this are profound. The usual quote ”No pro-Biafra activists or groups under the authority of Bilie Human Rights Initiative and the Supreme Council of Elders has ever been arrested, molested…..”, is laughable and most insincere in the strictest sense. First and by this, you have already identified that there are pro-Biafra activists or groups under the ‘authority’ of BHRI and her ‘Supreme Council of Elders'(not the Council of Elders of IPOB) and there are those who are not.Now as a rational being, why not leave those who are not under your authority alone to go about their activities? This is because you got it wrong in the first place when you insisted that Biafra can only be restored via LEGAL means and no other method thereby excluding others who do not believe in your legal method or to say the least who believe that all options must be on the table. It is bizarre to insist that independence can only be achieved through the law court even when every available
records in history of nationhood suggest
otherwise.Since you limit yourselves you cannot limit others and you cannot constitute an obstacle on the way of others (you cannot force people to come under ‘BHRI and the Supreme Council of Elders’).Doing so as you can imagine amounts to direct provocation and nobody will want to witness the consequences of that.
Furthermore, when you say that nobody has been arrested as a result of BHRI being in court (with its members and truly not on behalf of every Indigenous Biafran) for you can only represent those who are your members, it then begs the question which is: how can you or anybody be arrested by the Nigeria government where you observe, and pay allegiance to Nigerian constitution and adhere and obey the Nigerian law to the letter? Since you obey Nigerian law, why then are you claiming to be FIGHTING OR ADVOCATING FOR BIAFRA? How can Nigerian government arrest or molest you where in fact and indeed you have literally you have not broken any of her laws.Can’t you see that there is something fundamentally wrong with ‘justice obtained against the TRUTH’ ( Ikpe mara eziokwu na aka azu di ya)? Simple and direct, what you are doing is not freedom fighting because Independence cannot and has never been achieved via the court albeit via the oppressor’s court.
Again, to continue to feed your followers with incorrect legal information is a mark of irresponsibility and indeed it is for those who are card carrying members of BHRI and not for the Indigenous People of Biafra as a people. The truth is that there is body of principles or laws in international law.In other words, there is no codified principles or rules called ‘international Law’ for people to obey. What you have there are state practices or customs and treaties(which binds the signatories only) and of course the UN security council resolutions(enforced mostly through the use of force) and,expert legal opinions of jurists and legal scholars and the decisions of the international court of Justice (herein after ICJ) (these decisions are for disputes between independent states brought before the court). The conduct of states in international relations or system is not as a result of law but as a matter of choice and indeed on the ‘permanent interests’
of states. Rosalyn Higgins(a renowned
international jurist in her book: Problems and process, international and how we use it) clearly stated that ‘international law is not rules.It is a normative system.’ The support for Biafra like any other can only be got through a combination of factors which are many of politics and choice of states among others.The next question therefore is: who can bring a case before the International Court of Justice(ICJ)?
And here are the answers:
Only States are eligible to appear before the Court in contentious cases. At present, this basically means the 192 United Nations Member States.
”The Court has no jurisdiction to deal with applications from individuals, non-governmental organizations, corporations or any other private entity. As can be seen above, only an independent state/Country can take BHRI’s case against Nigeria to the ICJ as BHRI including its ‘Council of Elders’ has no right to TAKE NIGERIA TO THE INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE(ICT).The case is already dead on the grounds and questions of merit and admissibility.Nigeria,which you obey its constitution and laws and who is incidentally and bizarrely your oppressor definitely cannot take itself to the ICJ. Only an independent country can take your case to the ICJ and the question again is: how do you get this country to support you? The answer lies in the sphere of INTERNATIONAL POLITICS and MANOEUVRING and not in the COURT OF YOUR OPPRESSOR, NIGERIA. Furthermore, BHRI and its ‘SUPREME COUNCIL OF ELDERS’ and their followers are indeed Nigerians in fact and indeed who obey the Nigerian law and therefore coming out to the world to announce that they are freedom fighters and agitators for Biafra makes mockery of the Biafra
Independence struggle.You do not
confront Nigeria, you do not break any law by going to court to literally beg, you are merely making a legal argument which the Nigerian court is ever ready to continue to entertain till eternity and to use it to exercise their minds for legal researchers and scholars among them and indeed among legal researchers of BHRI. Biafra does not want research(enough has been researched on her), she wants freedom fighters for her liberation.It wants raw political process to drive this home simple!
Finally and put succinctly,the case that BHRI is pursuing against the Nigerian government is fundamentally flawed in every ramifications and BHRI is definitely NOT REPRESENTING THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA AS A PEOPLE, IT IS BASICALLY, IF ANYTHING, REPRESENTING THOSE BIAFRANS WHO ARE THEIR MEMBERS AND THE ‘SUPREME COUNCIL OF ELDERS’ IS SOLELY FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNDER BHRI AS A HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION.

Having stayed many years in crisis said to have hindered progress, peace and tranquility in Nkpor Community, Idemili North Council area of Anambra State normality is likely returning back in the prone crisis community following the intervention of a group known as Nkpor Gospel Crusaders, comprising all churches in the area.
This was made known during a-one-day free medical care for the indigenes of the community organized to assist in assimilating the health condition of the rural dwellers by Nkpor Gospel Crusaders.
When this Online visited the scene reports authoritatively that over 150 people made up of adults and children including pregnant and nursing mothers received free treatment in the event held at Nkpor Town Hall.
The leading medical doctor stationed to diagnosed patients at the venue, Dr. Ochuenwike Edith said they recorded cases of arthritis, malarias, high blood pressure, eye problems and many other ailment, adding that many other cases they can’t attuned to were referred to government hospitals.
Enumerating the gifts of Nkpor Gospel Crusaders to the indigenes of the community for the past ten years, one of the beneficiaries of the free medical care programme, Mr. Thank-God Ezefoue described the event as first of its kind in the history of the community, he called for the sustenance of the programme even as he prayed God replenish the domes of the drugs and the programme coordinators.
Reacting, Pastor Amechy Udeze who is the programme coordinator, flanked by Pastor Ben Odiwe, the national secretary of Nkpor Gospel Crusaders said they embarked on the free medical care after noting that there is no healthy nation without the citizenry been healthy. Pastor Amechy however revealed that the event was mapped out to touch the lives of the people living in most remote area.
It would be recalled that Nkpor Gospel Crusaders had before the event paid courtesy visit the traditional institution of Nkpor Community where they broke peace among those nursing grievances against each other.
