As Gov. Okorocha Becomes president in 2019 – By John Mgbe

Let’s Understand Our Differences First.
….Is President Buhari A One Tenure President?

Those who are familiar with the chequered relationship between the Great ZIK of Africa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and the Late Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, will readily recall that their relationship came to a stalemate when DR. Nnamdi Azikiwe made an overture to the Sultan to the effect that both of them should forget their differences. Records have it that the then Sardauna of Sokoto, SIR AHMADU BELLO, responded in a manner that did not get down well with   Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. The Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, responded   by saying that both of them should understand their differences first before   deciding to forget them or not. It is on this basis that I am raising an issue of critical importance in the future relationship between the political descendants of   Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Sir Ahmadu Bello both of who died many years ago. While the Great ZIK who was born on November 16th, 1904 died on May 11th, 1996 at the University of
Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in, Enugu, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, who was born on June 12th, 1910 died on January 15th, 1966 in the aftermath of the first military coup in Nigeria which took place on 15th January, 1966- thus culminating in the assassination of the Sardauna of Sokoto,Ahmadu Bello, and several other prominent Nigerians. Sir Ahmadu Bello was the first Premier of Northern Nigeria region from 1954-1966 while Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was the ceremonial Head of State of Nigeria.
I have been trying to give myself some leverage before dropping my message. Now the summary of this brief viewpoint is that Governor Okorocha of Imo State   has whetted the appetite of a large section of Igbo people in his electioneering message which states that: “My second tenure as Governor of Imo State is a   short cut to the search for Igbo President. In 2019, I will take over the Presidency from President Muhammadu Buhari.” Each time he makes this statement, the crowd will go wild with jubilation. Today, the only reason most   voters in Imo State are desperate to vote for Okorocha’s second tenure as governor is his pledge that in 2019, he, Okorocha, will be president. At a time like this when everything has been politicized and politicians can only see issues from political binoculars, only media professionals can present a mirror through which society can look at itself and take a stand based on an informed mind. It is   on account of this that I
am bringing this topic into the public domain, lest we   box ourselves into a tight corner in 2019.
So, the crux of this topic is to ask the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) to take judicial notice of their pact with Governor Okorocha in regard to his   becoming the next president in 2019. This appeal becomes pertinent because what this pact signifies is that President Buhari will be a one tenure President. It is pertinent to recall that the major reason most people were not in support of Buhari’s presidency agenda in 2015 was because in 2011, Alhaji Buhari had made a public statement to the effect that he would not vie for the Presidency again in his lifetime. So, when he dumped the vow to run for the Presidency, most people   felt disappointed to discover that Buhari is not a reliable and trustworthy     person. There were some others who voted against President Jonathan because they alleged that he, Jonathan, reached a secret pact with some political   demagogues to cede power to the North in 2015. People in my social class are not aware
of this accord between President Jonathan and the Obasanjos of this world.
But in the topic under discussion, Governor Okorocha of Imo State is telling everybody who wants to listen that he will take over ASO ROCK from General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.) in 2019. So, there is a need to amplify this message in order that the APC may issue a rebuttal, if need be, in regard to this controversial   message of the Governor of Imo State, lest this will be another obstacle to peace and tranquility in 2019.
The issue of the pact to cede power to Governor Okorocha in 2019 is pertinent in order to avert a recrudescence of the ZIK/Ahmadu Bello scenario where the Sultan rightly insisted that there was a need for both parties to understand their differences before discussing the issue of forgetting such problems. It was the renowned   scholar, George Santayana, who once said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Lagos begins issuance of new taxi/cab licences

0

The Lagos State Government on Thursday began the issuance of  new licences to operators of taxis and cabs in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the licences, targeting no fewer than 14,000 registered  operators, are being issued under the state’s new transport policy.

Apart from conferring on operators the right to operate unhindered, the licence can also be used to take loans from the bank.

The document, which is transferable and sellable, has a flat value of N100,000 but was being issued free of charge.

Presenting the licences to operators in Ikeja, Gov. Babatunde Fashola said the taxi licensing  system was concieved out of the need to properly regulate the taxi business and attend to serious safety issues.

He said that cases of criminals using cabs to perpetrate serious crimes were rampant in recent times and the new licences were a step to check the problem.

Fashola said the licences, apart restoring order to taxi operations, would also provide economic support to operators as the document could be sold or used to obtain loans from the banks.

“We need to be clear why we are issuing these licences. In many parts of the world where I have been, one of the safest places where you can find women, adults and children is the taxis.

“Once you enter a taxi in those parts of the world, you are safe. The reason is very simple: In all those places, those who run taxis are known people; they are professionals, they have identity, they cannot disappear.

“So if you are looking for a child and they say he entered taxi A or B, they will find the child because they know the driver, because they have the data of all operators.

” So, at this time of national and global security challenges, we cannot afford to be left behind, so we are issuing the licences not just for business, the most important part of it is safety.

“What this means is that if you enter a licenced taxi in the state, just know that you are safe and it also means patronising unregistered cabs means putting one’s safety in jeopardy, ” he said.

Fashola said the licences were necessarily carrying the pictures, names and addresses of holders for security considerations.

He said that the fingerprints of all  carriers embossed on the licences were verifiable on the state’s database and were also means to respond to security issues.

The governor said the new taxi licensing system was to further boost the status of Lagos as an emerging model megacity where cabs run efficiently with minimal security concerns.

Highlighting the economic benefits of the new taxi policy system, the governor said the system sought to professionalise the business and make it more rewarding for operators.

He explained that the new licence could be used as collateral to obtain loans from the banks and negotiate vehicle prices.

The governor said that the new licence could be sold by holders for a good sum in the future as it would work as a document with an appreciating value.

He said the document was transferable as it could be inherited and used by the holders’ children.

Fashola, however, said operators whose vehicles were not older than 12 years old and were in good condition were being issued the document

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa, on his part, said the licences were devised to revolutionise taxi business in the state.

Opeifa said the benefits of the licences were numerous to the state, the operators and the general public.

The commissioner said that the licencing meant more organisation, more confidence in the taxi system as well as better business for operators.

He explained that the document would not be issued three years after 2015, and that the essence was to create more value for the document.

“Under the new taxi policy, taxis are now allowed to carry adverts and they could wait at bus stops to take passengers unhindered,” he said.

He urged operators to tap the potential of the new taxi policy and licensing system to improve their businesses.

The President, Lagos State Taxi Driver/Cabs Operators Association, Mr Tajudeen Adetoro, thanked the government for the licensing initiative.

He, however, urged the government to do its best to ensure that the promise that the licence would improve their busineses was fulfilled.

The News Agency of  Nigeria (NAN) reports that new road signs designed by the state to ban horning in libraries ,hospitals and areas close to important government buildings, were also unveiled at the occasion.

Otti Meets Rochas Okorocha And APC Chieftains

0

Information available to 247ureports.com from competent sources in Abia State indicates that the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] candidate, Alex Otti may have initiated moves to placate the All Progressive Congress [APC] as he battles with the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] candidate, Okezie Ikpeazu for the governorship seat in Abia State.

A supplementary election is scheduled for the April 25, 2015 in select areas of Abia state where the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] had determined voting did not hold. The buildup to the April 25 electoral contest has raised considerable dust over allegations of fraudulent activities by both sides of the political aisle.

It is to this extent, the APGA candidate reportedly opened lines of communication with ‘new’ friends from outside of Abia state and outside of APGA – to enable him battle against the might of the incumbent government in Abia State.

Our source reveals that Alex Otti sought the attention of the Imo State governor for assistance. The source reveals that the meeting took place at Owerri – the week of April 14. The meeting was held at  night at the home of Rochas Okorocha – with only a select few in attendance. “The two men discussed possible defect from the APGA to APC” should Alex Otti be successful at the polls. In return, Rochas Okorocha will grandfather him – and present him to the godfathers of the APC – the likes of Tinubu and Amaechi – and possibly the president-elect, Malam Buhari.

The introduction by Okorocha to the godfathers of APC is reported to help soften the electoral battle on April 25, 2015. Already, source allege that the military stationed in Abia State along with the other security outfits in Abia – are said to have become ‘friendlier’ to Alex Otti’s ordeals than the PDP candidate.

It is believed by our source that Alex Otti has reached concrete agreements with the major stakeholders in APC – and that it is likely for him to defect to the APC should he win.

3.2 m Nigerians live with HIV, society insists

0

The Society for Family Health says more than 3.2 million Nigerians are still living with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Mr Bright Ekweremadu, the Managing Director of the society, said this on Thursday in Abuja at a forum to mark the end of Enhancing Nigeria’s Response (ENR) to HIV and AIDS programme.

He solicited realistic programmes to fight the virus, insisting that with the prevalent rate, much had to be done to tackle the menace.

“There have been tremendous improvements in addressing and halting the HIV and AIDS burden in Nigeria, there is still a lot to be done especially in regard to expanding access to services,’’ he said.

According to Ekweremadu, the ENR is one of Nigeria’s largest HIV/AIDS grants.

“ENR was funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to promote sexual reproductive health and HIV reduction in Nigeria.

“Its goal was to also contribute to reducing the spread of HIV epidemic and mitigating the impact of AIDS in Nigeria”, he added.

He said the ENR programme was a six year programme inaugurated in 2009 with a focus on eight high prevalence states.

He said the programme set to improve access to effective HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support information and services for people most vulnerable to infection.

Ekweremadu thanked the DFID for funding the programme and the long standing support and partnership.

In a remark, the representative of DFID, Dr Kemi Williams, said that Nigeria had the second highest prevalent rate of HIV, calling for concerted effort to check the scourge.

She said that through the ENR, “comprehensive HIV knowledge increased from 45 per cent for males and 38 per cent for females by 2014.’’

She noted that 1.2 billion male condoms and 4 million female condoms were distributed in the six years of the programme.

“These condoms with the associated health promotion and increased use prevented an estimated 109, 364 new HIV infections,’’ she said.

Also speaking, Prof. John Idoko, Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS, said with the end of the ENR programme, there was the need for government to internally fund HIV projects in the country.

“Government at the centre and state level are improving the resources for tackling HIV and AIDS,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ENR programme was implemented by a consortium comprising Society for Family Health, ActionAid Nigeria, BBC Media Action, Population Council and Crown Agents.

Dakuku’s Lie Over Rivers Gov’ship Poll Contradicts Self, Implicates AIG, Ogunshaki

0

Press Statement

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is happy the grand plot by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to rig the PDP out in the just concluded governorship election which failed has been confirmed by no other than the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside himself.

Dakuku while speaking on Africa Independent Television, AIT personality  interview on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in an attempt to prove that no election took place in the State said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 6, Calabar, Tunde Ogunshaki told them (APC) in a private meeting that he personally came to Rivers State to rescue the APC.

Mr Dakuku also admitted that when Ogunshaki was allegedly ordered by the Presidency to go back to Calabar, the zone 6 headquarters, he (Ogunshaki) also personally called him to inform him of the new development, which he lamented was responsible for the APC’s woeful defeat at the polls.

Also claiming that elections did not hold in Rivers State, Mr Dakuku failed  to explain why and how his party, the APC managed to win the election in Eleme and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas with wide margin, leaving the PDP with less than 5,000 votes in the two LGAs.

It’s also worthy of note, Dakuku’s inability to rationalize Governor Amaechi’s unlawful moment from one unit to the other across the State on the election day.

It’s rather ridiculous that a governorship candidate of Mr. Dakuku’s caliber is not abreast of the provisions of the electoral law and the only reason he could give for his benefactor’s (Amaechi) breaching of the law is that “For Christ sake, Amaechi though a voter is the Governor”.

He also alleged that electoral materials were hijacked by hoodlums whom he  also unleashed terror on some parts of the State without saying who those hoodlums were and whose party members the victims were.

Mr Dakuku is therefore speaking through both sides of his mouth by regarding the victory of PDP as a sham and yet accepted the victory of the APC from the same elections as credible in Opobo/Nkoro and Eleme LGAs where APC won.

We are shocked however that up to date, neither Dakuku nor the APC has denied or rejected the votes they received in the two LGAs, where they won.

It’s also pertinent to note that no relations of the alleged pre or post election violence have come up to accuse the PDP of responsibility of their predicament.

Stories of such massive killings are only being peddled in the newspapers by the APC to whip up sentiments and  invoke emotions of sympathy to strengthen their wish that the elections be cancelled.

Rather than join issues with Mr Dakuku, we prefer to appeal to him to accept defeat and congratulate the winner, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike who is the people’s choice and help in the process of rebuilding and uniting our marginalized people, which is the pre-requisite for the peace and progress he (Dakuku) is talking about.

This is the time to appeal to the people’s conscience and not their emotions.

Murder: Lagos court frees APC chieftain, 2 others

0

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday in Lagos  discharged and acquitted an APC chieftain,  Dr Tola Kasali,63,  and two others over alleged murder and possession of  firearms.

The magistrate, Mr  E. O. Ogunkanmi, made the pronouncement after he had read an advice  from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The two other accused are Mr Folami Musiliu, 65, a Special Adviser to the Lagos State Government and Mr Tobun Abiodun Lukman, 35, the  Chief Security Officer to one of the APC chieftains in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kasali was a former Commissioner for Special Duties  and former governorship aspirant on the platform of  the APC  in  Lagos State.

Kasali and the two other persons were first arraigned on Nov.  11, 2014, on charges bordering on conspiracy, attempted murder, murder and illegal possession of fire arms.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Thursday, Mr Jonathan Ogunsanya, the prosecutor and  a Senior State Counsel in  the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, informed the court of an advice signed by the DPP, Mrs  E. I. Alakija, and urged the court to effect this.

Ogunkanmi  read out a part of the advice  dated March 31 and  recommending the discharge of  the first, second and third defendants  as no case was preferred against them.

“The first to third defendants are hereby discharged  and the case is hereby struck out, ” he said.

After reading out the DPP’s advice,  Ogunkanmi pronounced the three defendants discharged and acquitted.

Mr. Kunle Odufayo, the counsel to Kasali,  said that there was nothing special about the case, adding that the DPP’s  advice equally confirmed his client’s  position and innocence.

Odufayo said that with the outcome of the case, the judiciary had further demonstrated that it remained the last hope of the common man.

He said that since the law did not allow for self help, everyone had to ventilate his or her rights.

At the last adjourned date, the DPP had ordered the police to conduct further investigations into the alleged murder charges leveled against the three persons.

An advice dated Dec. 9, 2014, and signed by the Lagos State DPP,  Mrs  Olabisi Ogungbesan, had compelled the police to conduct thorough investigation  into the matter.

The letter said that the evidence in the case file could not sustain the charges leveled against the three accused persons.

NAN reports that the men were alleged to have conspired among themselves  and with some others now at large  to have shot and killed one Musiliu Ogboye Lamidi  on Nov. 9, 2014, at Akodo in  Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the state during the collection of Permanent Voters Cards.

They were also alleged to have been in possession of a pump action Avar Magnum gun with registration No 6381, without appropriate authority.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 211, 231, 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and Section 27 (b)(1) of the Fire Arm Act. Cap 28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2011.

The court did not take the plea of the accused persons, although Magistrate Olatunbosun Abolarinwa,  who was holding brief for Ogunkanmi,  granted them bail on self recognition.

The counsel to Kasali had urged the court to admit the accused persons to  bail due to their social status.

When the accused persons were charged before the court, the then prosecutor, Mr  Femi Adamson, a Senior State Counsel and  now a judge, had informed the court that the matter should be referred to the DPP  for legal advice.

Adamson also advised the court prosecutor to verify the addresses of the accused persons.

Bracing-up for the challenges of dwindling oil revenue

By Obike Ukoh, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)

Economists have, on many occasions, warned that there are dangers for a country such as Nigeria with more than 170 million people to rely on oil as the mainstay of its economy.

They insist that no nation has ever become great by exporting raw materials and importing finished goods.

According to them, the dependence of states on statutory allocations for the running of the states, while there are numerous unexploited revenue sources, is even discouraging.

They, therefore, advise the relevant stakeholders to exploit the country’s agricultural potential and invest in Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Considering the advice, government agencies saddled with the responsibilities of increasing the nation’s revenue have been making efforts to exploit viable revenue sources.

For instance, the Revenue Mobililisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in 2013, organised workshops in the six geo-political zones in the country for the purpose of sensitising the public to that effect.

At the inauguration of the workshop entitled: “Economic Diversification for Sustainable Development’’ in Asaba, Chief Elias Mbam, the Chairman of the commission, said there was danger in running mono economy.

He urged the states and local governments in the country to improve their revenue generation and ensure fiscal efficiency with a view to reducing over-dependence on monthly allocation.

According to him, development programmes such as the Vision 20:2020 and the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government could only be achieved through effective economic diversification strategies.

The chairman tasked critical stakeholders such as the three tiers of government and the organised private sector to make concrete efforts aimed at tapping the vast natural resources that abound across the country.

Speaking during a similar workshop in Abakaliki, Mbam restated the need to diversify the economy.

“Currently, oil and gas resources drive the nation’s economy; these hydrocarbon resources are exhaustible, non-renewable and vulnerable to international price volatility and politics.

“Therefore, we must diversify in order to ensure sustainable means of funding our national development and reduce the over-dependence on oil and gas revenue,’’ he said.

He noted that the workshop would give the governments and stakeholders in each zone the opportunity to share experiences and explore strategies of exploiting and developing the various peculiar resources their respective states.

Sharing similar sentiments, Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, said that falling oil prices would pose a financial challenge for the development of the country.

He observed that there was a huge gap between the state’s revenue projections and actual receipts from the federation account.

Speaking at an executive meeting recently in Benin, he noted that the state government would sustain the progress made in infrastructural development.

“We are going to renew our commitment to cut costs and block leakages as much as possible and ensure that all taxes that are collected are actually reflected in the revenue of government,’’ he said.

Expressing optimism that Nigeria economy could be diversified, Mr Timothy Odah, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Ebonyi, said the state’s Internally Generated Revenue had risen to N1 billion  monthly from the projected N150 million.

He said the improvement was as a result of economic measures adopted in order to reduce dependence on the monthly revenue from the Federation Account.

“Ebonyi has three rice mills and the milled rice is in high demand; we never thought that something made in Nigeria will attract such high demand.

“We also have an international market which has 7, 070 stores; and we generate a lot of revenue by renting them out to international and local businesses.

“We have been calling on the need for diversification; that we should go towards alternative forms of revenue generation instead of depending on the dwindling oil revenue.

“It is time for oil to stop being a key determinant of our budget from local to federal levels,’’ he said.

Odah also said that apart from government, every individual had a role to play in boosting the country’s economy.

In her view, Mrs Kofo Akinkugbe, the Managing Director, Secure ID, advised that various authorities should encourage more investments in the ICT sector.

Acording to her, the company’s manufacturing plants will compete with card manufacturers in South Africa, Thailand, United Arab Emirate and Europe, if the import duty on raw materials is adjusted.

Akinkugbe said that the company started with offering security and management system services, such as Closed Circuit Television, using biometric and card assessment.

“Today we have clients in 15 countries across Africa and we intend to expand; we are currently responsible for the supply of 13 million high-end, residents’ identity cards from the Lagos State Government,’’ Akinkugbe said.

By and large, economic analysts blame Nigeria’s system of government for being responsible for over-dependence on oil revenue.

They opine that Nigeria’s system is neither a true federalism nor unitary system of government.

According to them, Nigeria as oil producing state has no option than to review its revenue sharing formula and invest in the real sectors of the economy, especially agriculture and manufacturing.

They hold out strong belief that using the oil revenue to develop the productive sector could be a good platform for a virile economic transformation.

NSC: Deplorable Stadiums, Epileptic Policy, Mediocre Bought Foreign Druggist – By Dr. Rashid A. Balogun

National-Stadium-Abuja-showing-neglect-from-the-Nigerian-government
National-Stadium-Abuja-showing-neglect-from-the-Nigerian-government

The wealth of a nation is determined by the collective wealth of all its citizens, but what if the citizens got no wealth and this writer says, the nation is bankrupt and must start afresh as it was after the World Wars decades past. Sports in Nigeria is bankrupt and virtually non-existent except perhaps football. Athletics is comatose where university graduates and aged men and women are paraded as youth while the seniors are recruited aged-foreign mediocre druggists that has no semblance of connection to Nigeria. The stadiums are in deplorable conditions (National Stadium Surulere, Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Ibadan insults common sense considering yearly recurring expenditures budgeted for them – at least over N20Billion in the past 4years). This is absurd, moral bankruptcy and insult to the citizens of Nigeria and MUST STOP. General Muhammadu Buhari are you listening?

Current Events

Football

Power tussle in the football federation and lame-duck de facto Sports Minister Danagogo has settled down. To remind those who didn’t follow such issue, Mr. Danagogo ordered the football federation to hire Stephen Keshi or any top UEFA Coach. Although, Mr. Keshi enjoys President Jonathan support, but this event is simply outrageous and that has nothing to do with Mr. Keshi or Mr. President personally, but professionally speaking, the football federation appears to be full of ‘yes sir’ individuals that lacks courage. Although, this submission is contrary to highly esteemed credentials earned by those federation scribes and one can only conclude that unknown reasons exist that prevented these individuals from courageous act like its secretary general did by walking-off the job recently.

Quite frankly, Mr. Keshi should bow out quietly now (contract or no-contract) and that is based on observation of the team when he handled it and even now because quality expected are those being showcased by Siasia U-23 team. This writer doubts if any team presented by Keshi can defeat Siasia’s current team. Furthermore, the open door policy enjoyed by Keshi with President Jonathan is now a thing of the past and the scrutiny he is going to face will be severe from Nigerians.

Athletics

On the athletics front, that federation is still wallowing in misery and the National Sports Commission (NSC) never at any time show interest on any development concerning that sport. Mr. Danagogo did a good thing by supervising the football federation whereas he simply ignored Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) even when Nigeria’s passports were fraudulently issued to non-Nigerians who failed woefully at the Commonwealth Games. Some Nigerians claimed he discriminated against the North with his action in respect of football and aided AFN atrocities, wherever the truth lies Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi did the same thing even changing the National Sports Festival format because of Governor Uduaghan (Delta governor) request. The fact, is both Sports Ministers (current or former) were wrong not to have universal rule.

Nigeria is presenting a team for the African Youth competition in Mauritius soon before the All African Games and age falsification is on the agenda for the youth games and for the senior’s team, Solomon Ogba vowed to present aged-illegal-bought-druggists as Nigeria’s team and the question the incoming regime is ARE YOU GOING TO ALLOW THIS OR JAIL THESE PEOPLE?

A cow is said to regurgitate its meal (contaminated or not) and human beings will show signs of discomfort whenever a contaminated meal is ingested and can either vomit or purging such meal. By analogy to Nigeria sports, the country had gone through over 16years of regurgitating or rather recycling of people of no-good intention towards the country and it is time to vomit or purge every individual that were part of the system of sports mediocrity or nuisance. Recovery of all funds meant for stadium upgrade must commence and athletes’ development cannot no longer be exclusively contracted out to sport federations. The culture of epileptic sports policy must be purged, now. Change, the country demand.

I rest for now.

NEMA DG Assures Sambo He Would Reclaim Constituency In Court

0

The Director General (DG), of the National Emergency Management Agency
(NEMA) Alhaji Mohammed Sani- Sidi has assured Vice President Namadi
Sambo that he would use his resources and position to reclaimed
Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency in court.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Jagaba Adams Jagaba won
the Kachia/ Kagarko Federal Constituency while John Audu Kwaturu and
Nuhu Goro won the Kaduna State house of Assembly in Kachia and Kagarko
respectively.

Sani-Sidi had earlier used thugs to disrupt elections at the APC
strong holds when he realized APC was winning which led to the
cancellation of election results in those areas by INEC.

With the failure of all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates
in the presidential, governorship, the state and the federal house of
representative seats where Sani-Sidi is said to have come from, it was
gathered, he has vowed to use his position, resources and influence to
ensure that the courts reclaimed the seats for the PDP.

“We have gathered reliably that during a meeting of stakeholders of
PDP, the DG of NEMA, Mohammed Sani-Sidi, promised Vice President
Mohammed Namadi Sambo that he should not worry that he would used his
position to ensure that all the election won by APC in Kachia/Kagarko
Federal Constituency are upturned and declared the PDP candidates
winners,” Umar Garba said.

It was further gathered that in order to keep to his promise, the NEMA
DG has disbursed millions of Naira to the PDP candidates that lost and
hired a senior lawyer close to Vice President Namadi Sambo to pursue
the state and the house of representative cases in court.

“Sani-Sidi was a Personal Assistant to Nenadi Usman when she was
finance Minister. And when Vice President Namadi Sambo was contesting
for governorship election in Kaduna State, he went to the Ministry for
some payment because he was a contractor then and Sani-Sadi gave him
financial contribution.

“When Namadi Sambo won the election as governor, he gave Sani-Sidi
commissioner of works. He was also overseeing the Ministry of health.
When late Yakowa became governor, he made Sani-Sidi the commissioner
of special duties because he was not experienced.

“Sadi-Sidi rejected the offer, but Sambo, as Vice President, single
handedly appointed him as DG NEMA since he will be answerable to the
office of the Vice President. He had no experience in disaster
management but the aim was to “siphoned” money for their personal use
in the name of relief assistance.

“Sani-Sidi’s term has been renewed. He worked hard with Nenadi to
force good people like Jagaba out of the PDP. Now that they have lost
out in the elections both at the state and at the federal levels, he
has vowed to reclaim Jagaba’s seat for one Akuso who contested with
him. We want the world to know about the dubious plans of Sani-Sidi
who thinks it’s going to be business as usual under the Buhari’s
government,” Garba said.

Sani-Sani’s assurance to Vice President Namadi Sambo that PDP would
reclaimed constituencies clearly won by the APC candidates confirmed
an audio clip in circulation and obtained by our reporter which one
Abdulrahman Jere, a commissioner in governor Yero’s cabinet that got
Sani-Sadi’s knot, vowed Jagaba must be killed politically.

In the audio, Abdulrahman Jere, a close confidant of Sani-Sidi in the
Jere politics, vowed that they can’t afford to allowed Jagaba in the
National Assembly.

International media had reported that the Presidency had backed Mr.
Akuso heavily in the election, but Mr. Jagaba, a member of the APC,
won.

INEC officials had told some journalists that several associates of
Vice President Sambo, led by the DG NEMA and Governor Mukhtar Ramalan
Yero, had made futile efforts to stop the electoral body from
announcing the victory of Mr. Jagaba.

When contacted by a text message, Sani-Sadi forwarded same to one
Ahmed Maiyaki, the Director General to the out-going Kaduna State
governor on Media and Publicity. Ahmed Maiyaki pleaded for the story
not to be published but could not give further details.

Ethiopians, Muslims Council condemn beheading of compatriots in Libya

0

Mohammed Aman-Jemal, President, Muslim Affairs Supreme Council, Ethiopia, and hundreds of grieving relatives have condemned the beheading of two Ethiopians by Islamic State militants in Libya.

Aman-Jemal said on Wednesday in Addis Ababa that slayings committed by the terrorists in Libya are a shocking deed that stands contrary to the teachings of the Holy Koran.

The Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Tadros Adhanom, said there were Ethiopians among the traffickers that set desperate migrants on dangerous journeys towards Europe.

“You traffickers have blood in your hands,” he said.

“Haven’t you had enough, don’t you have feelings for your fellow brothers and sisters,’’ he added.

Ethiopia’s House of Representatives also opened an emergency session with a minute’s silence, before voting to observe three days of national mourning and fly the Ethiopian flag at half mast from Wednesday.

Some lawmakers cited Islamic verses preaching tolerance and highlighted the centuries-long tradition of religious co-existence in a country.

They said the relationship between Ethiopia’s Christians and Muslims had long been relatively peaceful, but now becoming wary of the rising tide of radical Islam in the country.

The followers of both faiths recall a period in the 7th century when, according to tradition, groups of the Prophet Mohammad’s first followers, including his wife, fled persecution.

These groups found refuge in the Christian Axumite Empire, in the north of modern-day Ethiopia.

Abune Mathias, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, called on all compatriots to maintain Ethiopia’s ancient tradition of unity, love and compassion.

Hundreds of grieving relatives gathered outside the homes of two Ethiopians, who were among dozens shown being shot and beheaded in a video purportedly made by Islamic State militants in Libya.

Ahaza Kasaye, mother of Eyasu Yekuno-Amlak, one of the victims, said only two of the 30 Ethiopian Christian prisoners displayed being killed in two groups by masked jihadists, in a video released over the weekend had been identified by name.

She said the pair was close friends who grew up as neighbours in the impoverished Cherkos District of the capital Addis Ababa.

“My son is gone, I cannot bear it because I am burning,’’ she said.

Kasaye said it was Eyasu’s dreadlocks that enabled his family and friends to quickly recognise him in a group of prisoners.

He said the group of prisoners were seen in the video trudging along a beach in orange jump suits before their captors beheaded them as they knelt on the ground.

Though the bodies of the prisoners had not been returned or recovered, mourners erected a tent and a priest delivered a sermon.

Wailing mourners held aloft pictures of both victims as dozens of others young men, who were both neighbours and friends of the two men briefly took to the streets.

They demonstrated in Addis Ababa’s main square before being dispersed by police.

Meanwhile, friends of Eyasu and Balcha said both did not have jobs and that they had been in Libya for two months before being killed by Islamic State.
