RINGIM, JIGAWA STATE — Deepening economic distress and mounting political disaffection across the core North have sparked open rebellion within the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as local party executives voice frustration over neglect, poverty, and federal economic policies.
During a turbulent local party executive meeting in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, the APC LGA Secretary openly lamented the severe economic hardship confronting party leaders and grassroots supporters.
Grassroots Executives Decry Neglect
In an account shared by political activist Sulaiman Uwaisu Idris, the party official expressed bitterness over the inability of local party structures to cushion the impact of federal economic reforms for their own members.
According to the report, the party secretary complained that party leaders and grassroots mobilizers at the local government level have been abandoned to face severe inflation and hunger without relief or intervention from state or federal authorities.
“The APC Secretary in Ringim LGA, Jigawa State, is complaining bitterly at their meeting that they are suffering from hunger and poverty because no one is helping them,” the report detailed.
Brewing Northern Rejection Of Tinubu Administration
The outburst by the local party executive reflects a widening political rift between the core Northern political establishment and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Across key political blocs in the region, opposition alignment and public disaffection are hardening ahead of the 2027 general elections:
- Kano And The Kwankwasiyya Rejection: In Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his influential Kwankwasiyya movement have firmly rejected alignment with the central government, mobilizing regional sentiment against federal economic policies and positioning Kano as an unyielding fortress against the APC.
- North-East Resurgence Under Atiku: In the North-East, political structures aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are capitalizing on widespread economic grievances, consolidating opposition fronts across Adamawa, Taraba, and Bauchi to resist APC encroachment.
- Mass Exodus From Ruling Party: Driven by soaring food prices, fuel costs, and feelings of political marginalization, wave after wave of APC ward executives, youth leaders, and grassroots mobilizers across states like Jigawa, Kaduna, and Sokoto are defecting to opposition platforms, signaling a fragile base for the ruling party in its former Northern strongholds.
With internal party officers publicly admitting to severe hardship at the grassroots, political analysts warn that the APC faces an uphill task retaining its Northern political coalition unless immediate economic relief measures are deployed to soothe rising discontent across the region.
