Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Tuesday it had struck and destroyed shelters housing RQ-4 and MQ-9 drones at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, killing several US pilots and technical personnel and setting fire to base infrastructure, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
The claim was part of a wider IRGC statement asserting that Iranian forces also killed “a large number” of American troops in a separate strike on a US installation in Jordan sometimes referred to as Camp Titin. Neither the United States nor Jordan has independently confirmed either claim.
Context: an escalating regional campaign
The reported strike is the latest in a series of IRGC attacks on US and allied military sites across the region since fighting between the US/Israel and Iran intensified earlier this year. Prince Hassan Air Base — used periodically by the US Air Force since the 1980s, alongside French and British forces — has been targeted by Iranian forces multiple times in recent months as part of what Tehran calls Operation Nasr-2.
In similar strikes on the base in July, the IRGC claimed a missile and drone attack on King Faisal and Prince Hassan bases had targeted an F-15 preparation shed, destroyed eight new and refurbished MQ-9 drones before they could be assembled, and damaged two others. Iranian state media also reported damage to a helicopter hangar and said an unspecified number of “invading forces” were killed or wounded in that round of strikes.
The IRGC has framed the ongoing campaign as retaliation for US and Israeli military action against Iranian territory, including strikes tied to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces have also claimed attacks on US-linked bases in Bahrain and Qatar during the same period.
US and Jordanian response
US Central Command has periodically issued its own statements on strikes against Iranian targets, but has not verified Iranian casualty or damage claims from the Jordan strikes. Jordan’s military has previously confirmed incoming Iranian missile fire — in one instance saying it intercepted 10 of 13 ballistic missiles fired toward the country, with three landing in remote areas — but has not corroborated the scale of destruction or personnel losses Iran has claimed.
