DAURA / KANO — Tensions within political and cultural circles in Northern Nigeria have reached a boiling point after Dr. Talba Abubakar, Chairman of the APC Traditional Title Holders Association, publicly called on the Emir of Daura, His Highness Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, to immediately revoke the traditional title of popular political singer, Dauda Adamu Abdullahi (famously known as Rarara).
Rarara, who holds the prestigious title of Sarkin Waƙan Ƙasar Hausa (King of Hausa Musicians), is facing intense backlash following the release of recent controversial songs containing alleged derogatory remarks directed at former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mallam Isa Ali Pantami.
“Unbecoming of a Traditional Title Holder”: The Demand to the Emirate
Speaking on behalf of the association, Dr. Talba Abubakar asserted that traditional titles bestowed by revered institutions like the Daura Emirate represent moral authority, dignity, and cultural respect—virtues he claims Rarara has repeatedly violated:
- Slighting Islamic Scholars and Leaders: The leadership of the association expressed grave concern over what they described as persistent, disrespectful lyrical attacks targeting prominent religious scholars and political figures, specifically highlighting Mallam Isa Ali Pantami.
- Call for Immediate Action: Abubakar urged the Emir of Daura to act decisively by stripping Rarara of the Sarkin Waƙan Ƙasar Hausa title to protect the integrity, sanctity, and public respect of the Daura Emirate Council.

Political and Cultural Friction in Northern Music Scene
Dauda Kahutu Rarara has long been a polarizing figure within Northern political music, having composed high-profile campaign anthems for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) across multiple presidential and gubernatorial election cycles.
However, his recent lyrical disputes with prominent political figures and Islamic scholars have drawn widespread condemnation from cultural custodians and political groups, who argue that his public commentary has crossed from artistic expression into defamation and disrespect toward respected Northern leaders.
As of press time, neither the Daura Emirate Council nor Rarara’s media team has released an official statement regarding the demand for his dethronement.
