ABUJA — A massive fire outbreak has engulfed the AYM Shafa filling station located in the Area 3 district near Garki, Abuja, triggering panic among motorists and residents in the Federal Capital Territory.
The inferno, which erupted around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday night, was reportedly accompanied by multiple loud explosions near the busy retail station, leading nearby residents and motorists around the Apo Bridge axis to initially fear an explosive attack.
Firefighting teams from both the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service arrived swiftly at the scene to battle the raging flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring commercial structures and residential buildings.
Confirming the incident, the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, stated that emergency personnel were actively deployed to suppress the blaze.
“The Federal Fire Service empathises with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at AYM Shafa Petrol Station, Area 3, Abuja,” Abraham said in an official statement. “Our officers are currently on the ground working tirelessly to contain the inferno and ensure the safety of lives and properties in the surrounding area.”
While the precise cause of the fire and the extent of property damage remain under investigation by safety officials, no casualties have been officially confirmed as emergency responders maintain a perimeter around the facility.
