GUMMI, NIGERIA — Frontline security forces operating under Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have delivered a massive blow to armed Fulani militias in Zamfara State, neutralizing over 100 terrorists during a fierce counter-ambush operation.
The high-stakes battle resulted in the dramatic recovery of an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) that the criminal network had converted into a logistics vehicle to transport operational motorcycles across rugged terrains.
Terrorists’ Logistics Asset Paraded In Gummi
The breakthrough was first uncovered by North-West conflict and security journalist, Bakatsine, who shared verified field footage of the battlefield recoveries arriving in Gummi town.
The video, which has since gone viral across regional security loops, shows the captured tactical armoured vehicle packed tightly with several militia motorcycles. Security analysts note that recovering an APC from non-state actors highlights the sophisticated, heavy military-grade hardware currently being deployed by militias to challenge state sovereignty in the North-West.
“The operation resulted in the absolute elimination of over 100 suspected terrorists,” field trackers confirmed. “The recovery of the heavy vehicle, which they were actively using as a logistics carrier to move operational fleets to target destinations, significantly paralyzes their mobile striking capabilities.”
Coordinated Forest Raid Rescues INEC Official
The decisive counter-ambush follows a string of intense, multi-sector operations by joint security forces to push back a wave of coordinated attacks launched across the state’s central and western corridors.
| Operational Log | Inventory Of Recent Successes Against Armed Militias In Zamfara |
|---|---|
| Casualties | Over 100 militia fighters confirmed neutralized during the counter-ambush. |
| Heavy Hardware | 1 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) recovered and brought to Gummi. |
| Mobility Assets | Multiple operational motorcycles seized directly from the enemy fleet. |
| Hostage Rescue | Abducted electoral official, Aliyu Mohammed, rescued completely unharmed. |
| Asset Recovery | 1 Toyota Hilux, NECO examination scripts, and hundreds of rustled cattle retrieved. |
Just 24 hours prior to the Gummi breakthrough, heavily armed militia fighters riding on approximately 50 motorcycles swarmed farming communities in Talata Mafara, rustling hundreds of cattle. During that raid, the attackers intercepted and abducted an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official, Aliyu Mohammed, who was returning from an official deployment assisting the National Examinations Council (NECO) to transport exam scripts to Sokoto.
While the attackers abandoned his official white Toyota Hilux vehicle and the sensitive examination documents at the Tafkin area, they dragged the official into the dense wilderness.
Gando Forest Battleground
Responding to a critical distress call, operatives attached to the Zamfara State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), backed heavily by military ground troops, tracked the retreating militia cell into the notorious Gando Forest.
The security forces engaged the heavily armed cluster in a brutal gun battle, leveraging superior firepower to overwhelm the fighters. The operation successfully rescued the INEC official and one other civilian hostage completely unhurt, while simultaneously recovering hundreds of the stolen livestock.
While the military and police high commands have intensified combative tracking sweeps through the borders of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states to flush out the remnants of the wounded militia cells, formal statements detailing the total breakdown of the captured APC are expected in the coming hours.
