KANO, KANO STATE — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has exposed a highly organized drug syndicate operating an underground storage bunker directly beneath retail shops in the densely populated Brigade area, adjacent to the local mini stadium.
The discovery was made during a targeted raid by tactical operatives, who unmasked a hidden trapdoor mechanism leading to a subterranean bunker used for stockpiling highly potent narcotics and psychotropic substances.
The Discovery: Hidden Under Everyday Commerce
According to operational situational briefs obtained by 247ureports, the raid followed days of intensive surveillance and intelligence-gathering by undercover narcotics agents. Cartel members had deliberately rented standard retail shops near the Brigade mini stadium to serve as a legitimate front, masking the heavy foot traffic of buyers.

Upon breaking into the premises, NDLEA Kano Strategic Command officers discovered a concealed opening built beneath the floorboards. The underground chamber was fully provisioned with ventilation systems, lighting, and heavy iron lockers packed with various illicit drugs, including cannabis sativa, codeine syrups, tramadol, and synthetic mixtures.
Part of a Broader Tactical Sweep: “Operation Sharar Mafaka”
This shocking discovery follows closely on the heels of a massive state-wide enforcement drive led by the State Commander, CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal. Just days prior, the command publicly destroyed over 12.2 tonnes of intercepted narcotics at its disposal site, warning that cartels are growing increasingly desperate.
The Public Relations Officer for the Kano Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, noted that syndicates have shifted from open-air drug dens to building tunnels, retrofitted caves, and underground shop bunkers—such as the sites recently dismantled in Rimin Kebe—to evade aerial and electronic surveillance.
Community Vigilance Applauded
The NDLEA has cordoned off the affected commercial properties near the mini stadium, and the shop owners are currently being tracked down for intensive interrogation to determine their level of complicity.
The command has re-emphasized its plea to community leaders, traditional institutions, and market unions in the Brigade axis to closely audit the physical structures of tenants renting properties, warning that landlords who knowingly lease out shops used for housing illicit drug networks face immediate asset forfeiture under federal law.
