ABA / UMUAHIA — Tragedies and widespread shock gripped residents along Opobo Road in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State on Thursday, after a man allegedly threw his two young children from the balcony of a three-story building before falling from the structure himself.

The suspect, who reportedly attempted to push his wife from the same height during a violent domestic altercation, was immediately apprehended by eyewitnesses and local vigilantes before being handed over to security operatives.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to eyewitnesses and neighbors along the busy Opobo Road axis, a heated dispute broke out inside the family’s top-floor apartment before turning violent:

• Children Pushed Off Balcony: In a fit of rage, the man reportedly seized his two children and threw them off the balcony of the three-story building onto the pavement below.
• Attempt on Wife’s Life: After throwing the children, the suspect allegedly targeted his wife, attempting to overpower and hurl her over the balcony rail as she screamed for help.
• The Suspect’s Fall: During the struggle or while attempting to evade angry neighbors who rushed up the stairs to intervene, the man lost his footing and fell from the upper floor.
• Mob Arrest & Medical Rescue: Bystanders immediately secured the injured suspect to prevent a lynch mob while emergency responders and good Samaritans rushed the fallen children and the suspect to nearby medical facilities for emergency care.
