KATSINA, NIGERIA — A major breakthrough in Nigeria’s war against terror was recorded in Katsina State after the state-backed Katsina Community Watch Corps (KCWC) neutralized over 30 bandits in a fierce gun battle. The successful tactical operation, executed in the Malumfashi Local Government Area, led to the rescue of eight traumatized citizens who had been held captive in a forest hideout.

The celebration of the rescue was, however, overshadowed by a heartbreaking video captured at the scene. In the viral footage, a deeply traumatized male victim whose leg was bound tightly with heavy iron chains wept openly, pleading with his rescuers to amputate his leg if that was the only way to break him free from the padlock.

The report, first publicized by The Yoruba Times, has ignited a wave of praise for the local security outfit alongside widespread horror over the sheer cruelty inflicted upon captives by regional terror cells.

The Fierce Battle in Malumfashi

According to local security sources, operatives of the Katsina Community Watch Corps acted on credible intelligence regarding a specific location where bandits were holding a group of kidnapped villagers for ransom.

Upon invading the camp, the local operatives engaged the heavily armed bandits in a fierce, sustained shootout. Backed by superior knowledge of the local terrain, the Community Watch Corps overwhelmed the criminals, neutralizing over 30 bandits on the spot, while others fled deep into the forest with severe gunshot wounds.

Eight victims were successfully retrieved alive from the camp during the immediate mop-up operation.

“Cut Off My Leg”: The Horror of Chained Captivity

The reality of the bandits’ absolute brutality came to light during the extraction of the survivors. The victims had been kept in subhuman conditions, with heavy metal chains and industrial padlocks fastened around their limbs to prevent any attempt at escape.

As rescuers scrambled to find bolt cutters or keys to free one of the men, the victim broke down into uncontrollable tears. Driven to absolute desperation by days of torture and confinement, he was heard screaming that he was ready to lose his entire limb just to be separated from his captivity.

“Just cut off the leg if you have to,” the weeping victim told the security operatives. “Please, just let me be free from this chain.”

The Success of Decentralized Policing

Security analysts have pointed to the Malumfashi operation as definitive proof that community-backed, localized security architectures are highly effective at combating rural banditry. The Katsina Community Watch Corps, which was established to complement the federal military and police forces, has consistently proven its ability to respond rapidly to intelligence and neutralize threats before bandits can relocate their victims.

Medical teams have taken custody of the eight rescued victims to provide urgent psychological trauma counseling and emergency medical care for injuries sustained from prolonged chaining and starvation.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State government has commended the bravery of the Community Watch Corps operatives, urging local communities to continue feeding actionable intelligence to grassroots security actors to completely flush out the remaining terror cells from the state’s forests.
