ENUGU — A chaotic scene unfolded in Enugu South Local Government Area over the weekend as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 5 Chairman was reportedly assaulted by his own party members during a dispute over the distribution of money.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, May 9, 2026, has highlighted deepening internal fractures within the party ahead of future political cycles.

According to the Chairman, the altercation broke out immediately after a party meeting had concluded. He claimed that as he was preparing to share a sum of money among the members, he was suddenly attacked by several party officials, including the Youth Leader, Ekene Okoye, and the Assistant Organising Secretary, Munachi Echi.
“They attacked me and tore my clothes as I was about to distribute the money,” the Chairman stated while showing his shredded shirt to witnesses. Video footage circulating on social media shows the distressed Chairman calling for justice after being pounced on by the group, which allegedly included other members identified as Paulinus Ona and Tukur Mongu.
