ABUJA, NIGERIA — The promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Dr. Umar Ardo, has fiercely defended his legal opposition to the registration of the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming his actions are a personal crusade to stop a “national fraud” rather than a targeted attack on Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

However, his public justifications have sparked immense backlash from the Nigerian masses, who are openly dismissing him as an APC-sponsored agent deployed by the presidency to destabilize the potent opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.

The ‘National Fraud’ Defense

Appearing on Arise News, Ardo revealed that he held backroom meetings with both Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso before they formally merged their “Obidient” and “Kwankwasiyya” movements into the newly minted NDC. He claimed he warned both presidential hopefuls that the legal foundation and registration process of the NDC were deeply compromised and fraudulent.

“I reached out to everyone close to Peter Obi and asked them to tell him that if they were considering moving to another party, there are other options available, not the NDC,” Ardo stated. “I also met with Kwankwaso and raised the same concerns with him. Despite that, both of them joined the party.”

Ardo insisted that his ongoing judicial challenge against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the NDC’s legal existence is entirely personal and not tied to his party, ADA. He argued that the opposition leaders cannot build a presidential campaign on a flawed legal platform and expect Nigerians to vote for them, maintaining that their entry has not changed the “bad situation” surrounding the party’s registration.

The Masses React: The Ghosts of Abure and Nafiu

Despite Ardo’s attempts to frame his lawsuit as a fight for administrative transparency, the Nigerian electorate and grassroots opposition loyalists have completely rejected his narrative.

Across social media platforms and political gatherings, the masses are drawing direct, unflattering parallels between Umar Ardo and other highly controversial political figures widely believed to have acted as administrative saboteurs for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Critics are comparing his legal maneuvers to:

  • Julius Abure (Labour Party): Who was heavily accused by youth movements of deliberately entangling the Labour Party in endless leadership crises to weaken Peter Obi’s political machinery from within.
  • Bala Nafiu (ADC): Who is widely seen as an establishment asset used to trigger fractures within alternative progressive platforms whenever they begin to threaten the ruling party’s dominance.

An ‘Educated Sellout’

Public commentary has turned sharply hostile against the ADA promoter, with everyday citizens openly labeling Ardo as an “educated sellout” and a “weak, disgruntled politician.”

The prevailing public consensus is that Ardo is driven by intense political jealousy over the massive, organic, and cross-regional momentum commanded by the Obi-Kwankwaso “OK Ticket.” Commentators argue that the Tinubu administration is actively utilizing vulnerable opposition figures like Ardo to wage technical legal warfare against the NDC, knowing that the ruling party cannot easily defeat the combined organic voting power of the North and South at the ballot box.

While Ardo continues to swear that he is acting independently to protect the sanctity of the electoral register, the political masses remain convinced that his lawsuit is simply the latest chapter in the presidency’s wider strategy of selective state capture and opposition fragmentation.
