ABUJA, NIGERIA – Hon. Nafiu Bala, a central figure in the leadership struggle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed deep regret over his involvement in the party’s internal crisis, claiming that he and his family are now facing life-threatening risks.
The embattled politician broke his silence on Saturday, May 2, 2026, as the legal and political alliances that once supported his faction appear to be collapsing.
Threats and Regrets
In a statement released through a close associate, Bala admitted that the political situation has escalated far beyond his expectations. He revealed that constant threats have forced him into hiding, stating he can no longer attend public functions or congregational prayers due to fears for his safety.
“I regret my role in the ADC crises,” Bala stated. “I did not know it would reach this level. My life is in danger.”
Allegations of Abandonment
Bala’s change of heart comes amid reports of a fallout with his former backers. He alleged that he was influenced to take certain actions by other high-ranking party members who have since abandoned him to face the legal and physical consequences alone. He claimed that promises of political and financial support never materialised, leaving him isolated with mounting legal challenges.
The Context of the ADC Crisis
The ADC has been gripped by a leadership tussle that recently reached the Supreme Court. The legal battle has paralyzed the party’s operations, with the court directing factions to return to the Federal High Court for an expedited hearing.
The crisis has seen several high-profile exits, including the recent resignation of Hon. Leke Abejide, which further weakened Bala’s standing. Facing total isolation, Bala has indicated his intention to formally withdraw from all ongoing legal disputes to seek reconciliation.
Bala is expected to make a formal public apology in the coming days as he seeks to “free himself” from the controversy that has stalled the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
