UMUAHIA, NIGERIA — The Abia State Government has officially commenced a full-scale administrative investigation into deeply entrenched academic corruption, sexual harassment, and financial extortion at the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu.
The intervention aims to completely eradicate systemic malpractice, protect vulnerable students, and aggressively restore the academic integrity of the state-owned institution.
The Mandate Against Academic Corruption
The newly inaugurated investigative panel is tasked with auditing and uncovering several toxic practices that have reportedly undermined the university’s reputation:
- “Sorting” & Grade Buying: Lecturers or middlemen illegally trading high grades and exam scores for direct cash payments or material inducements.
- Sex-for-Grades: Structural victimization, intimidation, and blackmail of students by faculty members demanding sexual favors in exchange for passing marks.
- Financial Extortion: Forcing students to pay unapproved levies, buy overpriced textbooks, or settle illegal departmental fees under the threat of failing their semesters.
- Student Victimization: Punishing or deliberately failing students who choose to speak out against administrative corruption or refuse illicit advances.
Whistleblower Channels and Ironclad Confidentiality
To ensure a thorough sweep of the institution, the state government has issued an urgent call to action, calling on all current students, alumni, and affected individuals to submit detailed, evidence-backed reports of their experiences.
Recognizing the fear of academic reprisal, authorities have established a dedicated communication channel:
- Official Investigation Email: Absuinvestigations2026@gmail.com
The government has given an ironclad guarantee of full, absolute confidentiality for all whistleblowers. The identity of any student, parent, or staff member who steps forward with credible information, timelines, or names of corrupt faculty members will be strictly protected from exposure or internal victimization.
Targeting Global Academic Parity
State officials emphasize that this probe is part of a wider strategic plan to overhaul the state’s tertiary education architecture.
By aggressively flushing out bad actors and institutionalizing merit-based grading, the government projects that within two years, the quality of graduates emerging from Abia State University will firmly match the standards of the top federal universities and premier international institutions.
