APGA Gets new chairman in Abia

A new state chairman has taken over the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), in Abia State.

He is Prince Ukaegbu. APGA members in the state had erupted in wild celebrations, describing it as a new dawn for the party.

Ukaegbu took over the secretariat following the April 7,2022 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Owerri Division which confirmed him as the authentic chairman of the party in the state.

The Rev. Augustine Ehiemere led state executive council filed a motion asking the court to dismiss the judgment. But the court dismissed the suit.

Heavily armed policemen had yesterday taken over the APGA secretariat before Ukaegbu arrived the secretariat with 15 members of the state executive council of the party. The party executives later went into a meeting.

Ukaegbu, disclosed that his takeover of the party secretariat followed the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Owerri, which confirmed him as the state authentic chairman of the party.

The party boss said he is on a rescue mission to retake APGA and return it to the vision of the founding fathers.

He further disclosed that founding members of the party have been calling on him to return to rescue APGA from those they described as political merchants.

”We just took over the party secretariat. The party will sit down, review some issues. We just met for an hour and took some important decisions. I have the backing of 22 out of the 26 members of the State Executive members.”

Ukaegbu also disclosed that the state executive committee have suspended four members of the party including the former state chairman, Rev.Augustine Ehiemere;  former state secretary ,Sunday Onukwubiri; former state legal adviser, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro,and one other official ,over alleged embezzlement of N56m belonging to the party.

He explained that Ehiemere has been sitting on the petitions from APGA members over the alleged embezzlement.

When contacted on the development,Ehiemere said Ukaegbu’s tenure elapsed in 2014.
