PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA — The political warfare ahead of the 2027 general elections has escalated following a fierce rhetorical clash between former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and the former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
Amaechi launched a scathing counter-attack against Oshiomhole after the Edo lawmaker publicly disparaged him as a “shallow” and “unreliable” politician. Speaking during an explosive interview on Rapid TV, the former Minister of Transportation challenged Oshiomhole to a battle of credentials, daring the senator to present his academic certificates to the Nigerian public.
A Battle of Academic and Executive Credentials
Rebuffing the “shallow” label, Amaechi outlined his extensive educational background, noting that his intellectual record stands tall with multiple higher degrees, including qualifications in Law and Literature, master’s degrees, and certificates from prestigious international institutions.
Amaechi questioned the logical basis of Oshiomhole’s recent insults, reminding observers that both men served as state executives concurrently and interacted as peers.
“We were both governors at the same time,” Amaechi stated, questioning why the senator would suddenly discover he was shallow more than a decade after they ran state governments together.
The Real Reason Behind Oshiomhole’s Anger Exposed
Digging into internal party politics, the former Rivers Governor alleged that Oshiomhole’s sudden hostility is rooted in deep-seated bitterness over his unceremonious removal as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amaechi openly claimed responsibility for orchestrating that political downfall, stating that he played a leading, decisive role in the party internal coup that stripped Oshiomhole of his chairmanship.
Addressing Oshiomhole’s recent accusations regarding alleged financial mismanagement and abandoned infrastructure projects during his tenure in Rivers State, Amaechi completely dismissed the claims as a delayed smear campaign. He questioned why Oshiomhole conveniently waited 12 long years before suddenly manufacturing concerns about his governance record in Rivers State.
Pre-2027 Political Realignment
While Amaechi concluded the interview by stating he would no longer dignify the Edo Senator with further public responses, political analysts view the media crossfire as a symptom of a deeper, ongoing fracture within the opposition and ruling class networks.
The public fallout introduces another volatile chapter to the national political landscape, signaling that the personal animosities of veteran power brokers will heavily shape the alliances and media warfare leading up to the 2027 presidential race.
