Police Drags Farmer To Court Over False Information

An Awka Magistrate Court 3 presided over by Her Worship Nonyelum Anyaegbunam has fixed November 18,2020 for the closing addresses in the suit brought against an Anambra based fire extinguisher seller and farmer, Ben Ifeatu by the state police command.

Ifeatu, was facing a suit of false and misleading allegation of forgery of Certificate of Recognition he made against the Igwe of Isiagu, His Majesty Augustine Nwankwo.

The farmer was also accused of alleging that Igwe Nwankwo was using the Certificate of Recognition to indiscriminately arrest, detain and harass citizens of the community.

But at the resumed hearing yesterday, a prosecution witness who was also the Investigating Police Officer Madu Bukar listed Augustine Nwankwo, Gilbert Okoye, Chike Akabueze and Ben Ifeatu as the contestants who had vied to the throne of Isiagu, where Nwankwo emerged victorious and was consequently officially certified by the immediate past Governor, Peter Obi on March 7,2014.

The IPO also disclosed that in the course of his investigation he wrote to the Anambra state government on the matter and the government affirmed that Augustine Ozoemena Nwankwo is the duly certified Igwe of Isiagu, having won the poll organized and monitored, for all the contestants in 2012.

That it was consequent upon that he was collectively presented to the state government and then certified.
