The wife of Governor of Anambra State and founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), an NGO, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has called on women to make themselves the focal point of peace and family unity in their communities, the State and the country at large.
Dr. Mrs. Obiano made the plea in a special message in Awka signed by her Chief Media Officer, Emeka Ozumba, to mark the 2019 Mothering Sunday celebration by the Christian mothers of both the Catholic and Anglican communions in Nigeria on 30th March, 2019.
According to Mrs. Obiano, this year’s Mothering Sunday celebration which has a national theme: “The world is tasting for water, and women are the living water,” with sub-themes on holiness and sanctity, places the responsibility of satiating the global taste for sustainable living on the women. She said that the occasion provides a unique opportunity for mothers to advance the course of sustainable peace beyond their immediate domestic fronts to the larger society.
In her words: “We are just coming out of elections across the country with the attendant challenges and disagreement among some of the political influencers . It is a good time for mothers to deploy their God-given talent as mediators to promote peaceful resolution of issues among various contenders. This special day, therefore behooves on mothers of all Christian faith to sue for peace at home, community and nation.”
The wife of the Governor stated that mothers in Anambra State are uniquely positioned at this time to build on the peaceful coexistence and tolerance in the state especially at this period of transition when the administration of His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano, recently clocked five years. She stressed that it is only in an atmosphere of amity and inter-religious harmony that the tremendous growth and development witnessed in the state can be sustained.
Furthermore, Osodieme noted that the 2019 Mothering Sunday celebration is very apt, because it is coming on the heels of the recently concluded United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 63rd Session held in New York United States of America which explored themes on women and girl-child empowerment and the need to sustain global standards for achieving gender equality by increasing effective women’s participation in leadership. She called on all mothers to take advantage of the enabling environment the present administration of Governor Obiano provides so as to enable the women soar beyond bounds
She also enjoined mothers never to lose focus on the eternal model of motherhood, Holy Mary the mother of Christ our Saviour; while looking onto God at all time for help and blessings.
