Imo Workers Rain Curses On Okorocha Over Claims On January Salary

By Austin Echefu

Angry Imo State civil servants and pensioners have rained curses on Governor Rochas Okorocha over his claim on Wednesday that he has paid January 2018 salaries to all the workers in the state and pension to the pensioners.

The workers who spoke to 247ureports in Owerri on Thursday prayed God to repay the Governor in his own coins, saying that God would give him double of whatever he has done to them.

“He paid his mother! How could he continually claim he has paid us? As I speak with you, I have not seen the cheque for our salaries, not to talk of going to the bank to cash my own.

“God will pay him back. The way he has treated us, God will treat him like that too. Whatever he claims he has done for us, God will give him double of it”, said an angry worker.

Another worker also lamented that it was same way the Governor announced to the whole world that he had paid us our December/November salaries, whereas we did not go home with our November/December salaries. Now they are talking about paying January salaries when we are still hungry.

Another civil servant also lamented that the Governor has been lying to the people, saying: “Who would argue him? He owns the workers and the radio station. He has the money and there is nothing we can do except to continually be on our knees and ask God to send us a good leader.

She added: “We can only pray to God and be on our knees always. He can say anything, but who can argue him. He owns the workers and the radio station and he can say what he likes.”

A top LGA officer who also spoke to this medium lamented that their salary was submitted at the Local Government audit on Thursday, 18 January, 2018, same day the Governor claimed to have paid the civil servants, waiting for Audit to send it to the salary committee.

Governor Okorocha had through a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, on Wednesday said that “the state government has begun to pay workers in its workforce the January 2018 Salary”.

He added: “The money for the payment of the January Salary was released on Thursday, January 18, 2018 and the payment has begun in earnest.

“The government decided to be keeping the public posted on the issue of Salary payment because of the unpatriotic dispositions of some of the workers who always deny that they have not been paid Salary when they have been paid in actual fact.

“The governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Rescue Mission Government he heads would continue to give payment of Salary and Pensions the attention they deserve.”
