At about 10:12 hours of November 28, 2016, the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in a combined Operation with men of the Rivers State Police Command intercepted a gang of Armed Robbers at the UTC Junction in Port Harcourt.
Acting on credible Intelligence, the armed robbers who had perfected plans to rob Arikunka cash office were double-crossed by the Police. The Armed Robbers on sighting the Police opened fire on them and in the ensuing exchange of gun fire, three of the Armed Robbers were killed while one of them by name James Peter ‘m’ 30 years was arrested alive.
Items recovered from them at the scene include:
a. One GPMG rifle with breach No. A132/095
b. One Ak47 rifle with breach No. 0231
c. Two Magazines fully loaded with ammunition
d. One Thousand rounds of GPMG Ammunition.
James Peter has made useful statements among which include to have carried out several kidnapping and Armed Robbery Operations in the State. And also responsible for the killing of Late Corporal Ifeanyi Ify, attached to C4i, who was killed at an APC Rally in Okirika. He is helping the Police in the Investigation.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Omoni Nnamdi, “the Command under the watch of the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, CP Francis M. Odesanya, is not leaving any stone unturned. All hands are on deck to make Rivers State habitable for all, especially as the yuletide season approaches, promising to put adequate security measures in place to ensure a crime free Christmas celebration.”
