His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie Maduabuchkwu Obiano of Anambra
State has commenced plan to upgrade Nwafor Orizu College of Education,
Nsugbe in Oyi local government area of the state to University College
of Education.

This was revealed by the Ananbra State Commissioner for Education,
Prof. Kate Omenugha during the 17th Convocation ceremony of the
College, held yesterday(Friday, 2nd December, 2016) at the football
field of the College that has produced erudite scholars, including the
current education commissioner of the state.

The education commissioner who rated Gov. Willie Obiano high in his
quest to make the state an interesting place for acquiring qualitative
education also said she is happy with the administrator of the Provost
of the College, Dr. Cordelia Ego Uzoezie even as she described
Uzoezie’s tenure in Nwafor Orizu College of Education as the best that
has happened to the College.

Handing down what the government of the state is doing to actualize
the  upgrading the College to University of Education, the most
learned person in Ananbra State (going by her apoointment) told
Journalists that His Excellency, the governor is working hand in glove
with the College’s Chairman Govering Council, Dr. Cletus Madubugwu
Ibeto in turning the table round for good for the College.

Reacting while exchanging views with Journalists at the end of the
event,  Dr. Cletus Ibeto said a lot have been done in making sure that
the wonderful plan of Gov. Willie Obiano towards Nwafor Orizu College
of Education martialized, beating his chest that; “within one year
now, I will be addressing you people on either the upgrading of the
College to University of Education or the final stage of the
excercise”.

Early in her address, the Provost of the institution, Dr. Cordelia Ego
Uzoezie flanked by  Mr. Godwin U. Okeke-Ag. Register, Mr. Peter
Iloakasia-Ag. Bursar, Mr. C. N Nwogwugw-Ag. College Librarian, the Ag.
H.O.D Works & Service, Engr. Onyili Nnandi amongst others noted that
the graduands had worked very hard and made a lot of sacrifice,
believing that life must have been very tough for most of the
graudands as regard living very far from home and dependence and care
of their respective families.

Reminding 2,774 graudants that the contemporary world is forth with a
plethora of problems, especially for the young generation, the
educational don, advised that family break-ups, false religious
promises of magical solutions to problems, inordinate quest for
material wealth, poor political governance, amongst others should not
been seen as a factor that would hinder the graudants from excelling
in their different  endeavors.

“So, any young man or women stepping out of the College or University
would not except a bed of roses beyond the institution’s gate, because
the world had never been a hospital for existential gout, the world,
especially at present, is an existential battle-field, and your
knowledge and certificate are the arms and ammunition to fight your
way to survival and success”. Dr. Cordelia Ego Uzoezie advised.

Lauding Gov. Willie Obiano for his maginanimity for her College, Dr.
Uzoezie described the governor as their drummer, who has spared no
effort to bail the College from many of her, especially, financial
problems.

“Gov. Obiano had never closed his ears any time to our enteritis, or
closed his door against our approaching footsteps. My staff and I are
very aware of this”. The Provost concluded.

The highlights of the event includes, award of the Nigeria Certificate
in Education(N.C.E) &Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) to the
deserving graudands, cultural dance and other display from the
students while item seven was not left out in the worthy celebration.
