The Borno state government has concluded plans to renovate and reopen boarding secondary schools occupied by internally displaced people (IDPs) in the last two years .
Already, the sum N86 million have been approved to undertake the renovation eight boarding secondary schools across the state with a view to reopening the schools by second week of September
The state commissioner of Education Hon Inuwa Kubo made the disclosure on Thursday during a visit to some of the affected schools in Maiduguri the state capital .
Kubo said the state governor, Alh. Kashim Shettima was concerned about the reopening of boarding schools across the state “ so that normal academic activities can resume in our boarding schools.”
“ I have visited most of the schools and found out that the facilities are in deplorable condition after the over two years occupation by IDPs but we are making arrangements to fix all the boarding schools and reopen by second week of September .
“ we have since relocated all the IDPs who had occupied and vandalize our facilities to a proper camp so that we can access and effect immediate repairs in boarding schools across the state.
“ But due to security situation in four newly liberated local government areas of Abadam , Mobar, Marte and Ngala ; we are not going to to reopen our boarding schools yet in those areas but alternative arrangements have been made to ensure that affected students continue their education here in Maiduguri .” Kubo said.
