A Lawyer has petitioned the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over case of assault on a man by a Commander and Officers of the Corps now at large. The incidence was said to have occurred in Kuje town, headquarters of the Kuje Area Coucil, Federal Capital Territory.

The petition titled “ A case of Assault and causing grievous hurt on the person of Iortim Henry Terseer: an appeal for urgent intervention” dated 20th January, 2016 was signed by  Linus Bassey ESQ of Destiny Chambers, same was stamped received in the Office of the Commandant General on 21st January, 2016.

Bassey averred that on 20th January, 2016, the victim approached his Chambers with a complain that an Officer of the NSCDC in company of three other colleagues on board a Honda Academy with registration number  CX 106 RBC drove same recklessly and deliberately crashed into the rear of his car thereby damaging it. He further stated that following the insistence by his client that the NSCDC Officer fix the damaged car, the Officer tricked his client and attempted to run away.

According to the Lawyer, his client was however lucky as he caught up with the Officers at a Military Checkpoint mounted by Special Forces of the 169 Battalion situated at the Gudaba – Kuje expressway. The Lawyer further said that rather than resolve the matter amicably, the NSCDC Officers mobilized and gave his client the beating of his life.

He added that despite the arrival of an NSCDC Commander identified as Bassey, the situation escalated with his client beaten to a near state of unconsciousness and was left traumatized.

“It may interest you to know Sir, that our client was beaten unjustifiably and treated as a common criminal in a pure democratic dispensation where the rule of law ought to be strictly adhered to; we sincerely frown at such behaviours demonstrated by your men and respectful appeal that these men be fished out and be called to order and probably face disciplinary action to serve as deterrent” the Lawyer stated.

Our Correspondent gathered from Mr. Iortim that trouble started when the NSCDC Officers cited him with a sheet of paper in which he had copied the registration number of their car. According to him the Officers threw caution into the wind and viciously attacked him with several punches in the face, adding that the Officers equally deployed kicking with their heavy boots claiming the Officers’ objective was to kill him in cold blood.

The Victim who spoke in tears lamented saying that none of the Officers displayed a name tag for proper identification, he however, noted there was a particular officer that wore an insignia of an Eagle on the shoulder who concentrated on strangling his neck while the other three kicked and punched him severally in his loins like a bag of grain.
