Facts emerging from the Delta State Police Command are indicative that Delta State Government has special interest in the travails of the suspended Uwvie Local Government Chairman, Hon. Henry Baro.
Henry Baro was suspended from office June 2015 by the State House of Assembly for allegations which run contrary to the state peace and security initiative and has been serving the suspension amidst protests from his supporters in Uwvie council area.
He had been invited twice to the State House of Assembly to defend the allegations against him with the view to returning him to office and clear him of wrong doing.
But last week, the Delta Shopping Mall in Effurun, otherwise called Shoprite, was invaded by youths from Effurun who vandalized the mall and carted away property worth over N20m.
Somehow, Baro was found within the precinct of the Shoprite and was apprehended by the security details at the mall. Though he was freed after the fracas between him and the naval officer at the shopping mall, the Delta State Police Command has declared him wanted in connection with the Shoprite vandalisation.
In a media briefing by the State Commissioner of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, the Commissioner told journalists that Baro and the Effurun Central Motor Park Chairman, Odibu Napoleon have been declared wanted and added that anyone who could provide information about their whereabouts, the Police headquarters would reward such with N1m.
Following the briefing, a public notice advert was placed in three national dailies where grievous allegations of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, unlawful assembly, conspiracy to commit riot, malicious damage and others were leveled against them.
The advert was signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, with the police letter headed paper and published in The Daily Sun, Vanguard and The Nation Newspapers on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.
But despite the signature of the Police image maker and the police letter headed paper, investigations made by 247ureports.com had revealed that Delta State Government sponsored the public notice advert declaring Baro and Napoleon wanted by the police in the state.
But rather than coming out as the sponsor of the advert, the state government connived with the police command and sponsored the advert declaring Baro and Napoleon wanted by the police.
A senior police officer in the state police headquarters, who preferred anonymity, told 247ureports.com that the public notice advert was sponsored by the government of Delta State giving credence to the long held belief that political forces were part of the challenges responsible for Baro’s woes in the state.
