Court Issues Warrant Of Arrest Of Enugu NUJ Chair

The Enugu Chief Magistrate Court of Enugu North Magisterial District Monday issued warrant of arrest of the chairman of Enugu state Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Louis Ngozika Dilibe for alleged assault and threat to life of the Vice President of NUJ zone C, Comr. Christopher Isigwuzo.

The Chief Magistrate, J. L C Okibe gave the warrant order when the NUJ chairman, Dilibe failed to appear in court to take plea of charge No. MEN/07c/2016 proffered against him even when he had on Saturday sign and collected an arraignment notice.

The Police prosecutor C. O. Ugwu told the court that the refusal of the accused to appear before this court is fragrant disobedience.

In a three counts charge reads: “that you Dilibe Lupus Ngozika ‘m’ on 5th day of January, 2016 at about 18:15hrs, at No.2 Edinburgh street, Ogui New Layout Enugu in the Enugu North Magisterial District did assault one Comrade Christopher Isigwuzo ‘m’ by given him a fist blow all over his body and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 252 of the criminal code Cap 30 vol. II revised law of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.

“That you Dilibe Lupus Ngozika that on same date and time and in the aforesaid Magisterial District did violently threatened the life of one Comr. Christopher Isigwuzo with a sword and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 120 of the criminal code Cap 30 vol. II revised law of Enugu state of Nigeria 2004.

“That you Dilibe Lupus Ngozika that on same date and time and in the aforesaid Magisterial District did maliciously tore cloth valued Eighteen thousand naira (N18,000.00) property of one Comr. Christopher Isigwuzo with a sword and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 415 of the criminal code Cap 30 vol. II revised law of Enugu state of Nigeria 2004.

The court has adjourned to 18th January, 2016 for the accused to take plea.
