Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said the substance of Enugu state is in the hands of God as he laments the worsening economic situation of the country following continued fall in oil revenue.

The governor who stated few hours ago during the thanksgiving mass/reception held at Assumption Catholic Church, Nkwo Nike organized by the entire Nkanuland, the Enugu East Senatorial Zone in honour of the Speaker State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi, Ugwuanyi said payment of workers salary is becoming problem let alone embarking on developmental projects.

Governor Ugwuanyi pointed out that in the recent past, Nigeria enjoyed money from excess crude but today, Nigerians are yearning for a bail out for states to be able to pay salaries.

Though he expressed optimism that his state would come out of the murky economic fortunes, stronger and prosperous, on convictions that prayers the people of the state has been saying for his government and promise to rule with the fear of God.

“We must work in Enugu State with the fear of God.  Always put us in prayer.  Put us in prayer and we shall succeed,” Ugwuanyi opines.

The officiating priest, Msgr. Patrick Ugwu in a sermon lauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his care for the poor and the needy and urged him to continue with his good works.

Ugwu urged everybody especially Gov. Ugwuanyi to always try to do the will of God.  “We shall at all times try to do the will of God,” the priest urges.

Speaking at the occasion, the chief celebrant, Hon. Edward Ubosi said that the sermon taken from the Gospel of Luke that gave account of the humble birth of Christ was like talking about himself.

According to Ubosi, Christ was born in a small village in Israel where no one thought a messiah would be born.

He likened himself to Christ saying that among all the members of the House of Assembly, Enugu State, he was chosen to be the speaker.

“It is like the Gospel is about me.  I was the smallest in the House but was chosen to be the speaker,” the happy Ubosi said.

A lot of dignitaries graced the thanksgiving mass/reception in honour of the Speaker. They include Gov. Ugwuanyi, senators Gil Nnaji and Chukwuka Utazi among other dignitaries.
