Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has promised to cut down frivolous expenses and block revenue leakages in the state.

Ikpeazu stated this while receiving the transition committee chairmen of the 17 council areas of the state under the aegis of the All Local Government Conference of Nigeria (ALGON) who called on him in his office.

 

The governor vowed to confront individuals and groups who constitute a cog on the wheel of progress at Local Government and state levels and called on the people not to sabotage the state.

 

He commended the transition committee chairmen and urged them to end the ghost worker syndrome which he said, cannot be sustained without the support of those in the system.

 

While describing the local Government system as an integral part of every government and appreciated the chairmen for remaining focused in spite of obvious challenges, the governor said the was prepared to pay only staff that were working and not ghost workers.

 

Earlier in his speech, the chairman, ALGON, Abia state, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma pledged their support to the governor and added that they have resolved to assist the governor in his quest for speedy development of the state as they have told residents of their councils that it would not be business as usual.
