Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that residents of Gombi in Gombi local government area of Adamawa state are uneasy following the dropping of objects suspected to be bombs around a mountainous part of the local government area.
Even though the alleged bombs were dropped, residents, the local hunters along with some members of the civilian JTF are said to be watching with keen interest to see what happens next.
One of the residents Ishaku Bala said the hovercraft had been circling the area for quite some time before finally dropping the objects behind the Gombi hills.
According to him, their fear stems from the fact that the insurgents have from the fact that the insurgents have been launching counter attacks despite the fact of an imminent defeat on the people hence they do not want to take chances of the unknown.
Also, local hunters had only a day back in the early hours of Monday 2nd March, 2015 shot and killed a suspected suicide bomber who tried to launch an attack at a mosque at Tashan Marghi area of the town.
“In the early hours of today (Monday) during the dawn prayers, a suicide bomber carrying two explosives was shot and killed by local hunters”, says Bala.
Bitrus a resident of the area said this and the objects dropped by the hovercraft has helped to create more tension in the area.
A senior citizens of the area Mallam Bashir Chubado told our Correspondent in a chat that the Sunday incident saw three bombs dropped and half buried in the sand.
According to him aside form that hovercraft, another craft came hovering around but it did not deter them from keeping vigil.
In a reaction, the Police Public Relation Officer DSP Othman Abubakar confirmed the two incidents but said the bombs were dead ones and appealed to residents to go about their normal and lawful duties.
According to the PPRO the military authorities confirmed to the police that they were dead bombs.
However, a political analyst Mallam Isah Masidi questioned the rationale of disposing the said bombs that way instead developing a method were they could be better disposed of.
