The University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka has successfully restored the problem confronting the institution by providing portable water in the Enugu Campus of the University after 15 years which past administrations failed to achieve.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba,told journalist this yesterday during the 54th Founders Day Press Briefing of the institution said his administration has commenced plans to procure Washing Machines for its students.
Prof Ozumba said this development has ushered in new life to staff and students in the institution, stating that it was unusual for university students to wash their cloths with their hands in this 21st century, assuring that students of UNN would soon been using machines to wash their cloths.
According to him, since university students in West Indies could use hand washing machines to wash their cloths, UNN could also achieve such feat for its own students.
The UNN Vice-Chancellor, who is hundred days in office, said his overall agenda was to provide the university the leadership needed to become an academic giant and pace setter in the quality of its scientific research, the level of its innovative teaching and robustness of community service among universities in the developing countries.
Ozumba assured that the dreams and vision of the founding Fathers of the university articulated in the motto To ‘Restore the Dignity of Man’ was still in their minds, saying, he was fully aware that the mantle of leadership given to him by the Governing Council of the university was an immense privileged and at the same time attended by great challenges.
“This is the first Founders Day Celebration of the University of Nigeria I’m presiding over as Vice Chancellor and so it is a kind of first Public presentation by me as Vice Chancellor, To God be the glory.
” My overall agenda is to provide the University of Nigeria and the leadership needed to become an academic giant and pace-setter in the quality of its scientific research, the level of its innovative teaching and robustness of its community service among universities in the developing countries” he stated
Ozumba said by reason of the special historical relationship between our country and the University of Nigeria, the institutions 54th founders Day Coincided with the 54th Anniversary of independence of our country.
