The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has expressed shock and grief over the death of the Second Republic Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Wash Pam, describing it as a collective loss to the Senate and the nation in general.
This was even as he expressed deep sadness over the deaths and injuries arising from the May Day bomb blast in Nyanya, Abuja.
Senator Ekweremadu, further described the late Deputy President of the Senate as “an uncommon patriot and elder statesman”, saying that his death was a loss to the Senate in particular and the Nigerian legislature in general.
He said: “This is indeed one loss too many. Senator Pam was a distinguished lawmaker and will be remembered for his eloquence, as well as the force and conviction of his words. He represented the best of our democrats and will be sorely missed.”
Senator Ekweremadu condoled with family of the former Deputy President of the Senate as well as the Government and good people of Plateau State.
The Deputy President of the Senate has also condoled with the families of the victims the second Nyanya bomb blast, describing it as a “dastardly, wicked, and ungodly act by enemies of the nation”.
Senator Ekweremadu who called for concerted efforts by all Nigerians to rid the nation of all traces of terrorism and insurgency, called for courage among Nigerians.
He added: “We have overcome difficult challenges in the past, and this too shall be overcome. I urge courage among compatriots, as we must never surrender our collective innocence and values, sanctity of human lifeto the enemies of the nation”.
