As part of efforts to curb the problem of child begging associated with the ‘Almajiri’ education system in most northern states, the Bauchi State government has summoned Qur’anic teachers across the state to rub minds on how to find an enduring solution to the challenge.

The director general, Bauchi State Tsangaya education, Sayyadi Aliyu Dahiru Bauchi, who explained that the development followed the recent ban on begging by the Kano State government adding that participants at the meeting gathered to dwell on three vital issues or modus operandi that are likely to find solutions to the syndrome in Bauchi State.

He noted that Bauchi State has now become the centre of  the ‘Almajiris’ in northern states as a result of insurgency in some cities of the north such as Borno and Yobe, hence they emigrated in numbers to Bauchi State.

Sayyadi Aliyu commended the Bauchi State government for the financial support it has been giving to Qur’anic teachers in the state disclosing that with the increment of Tsangaya teachers in the state to 10, 000, the state government will from this month be spending N50 million monthly as allowances on the basis of N5, 000 per beneficiary.

The DG also lamented the unfortunate incident of Boko Haram insurgency as it badly affects the northern states especially Borno and Yobe, known since time immemorial as citadels of Qur’anic education, stressing that the insurgency in these particular states have retarded teaching of the Holy Qur’an.
