Leading governorship aspirant in Abia State, Barr. Friday Nwosu has called on Nigerian leaders to discover how the Premiers of the defunct Eastern, Western and Northern regions, Michael Okpara, Obafemi Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello, were able to sustain the economies of their regions with agriculture instead of reliance on oil.

In an interview with 247ureports.com at the venue of the reception for Gov. Theodore Orji by the Bende Federal Constituency at the Bende Mini Stadium, the Obingwa born legal practitioner said he will sustain the legacies of Gov. Theodore Orji if he is elected to succeed him in 2015, particularly the Liberation Farms scattered across the three senatorial zones of the state.

“I have well developed programmes and policies capable of taking Abia to the next level from our Legacy Governor, Chief Theodore Orji(Ochendo Global) will hand over the baton. My plans are carefully tailored to sustain the worthy legacies of our great leader, Chief Theodore Orji, who has no doubt redefined governance in the state. Im particularly interested in the Liberation Farms projects undertaken by Gov. Orji. My administration shall accord every sector of the state economy the attention it deserves if elected next governor of Abia state.  I will bring back the golden era of Ahmadu Bello and Michael Okpara administration when agriculture was the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.

“We must look towards agriculture as the solution to the unemployment problem in Nigeria. There is a great need to revisit the Ahmadu Bello and Michael Okpara years to discover how they were able to sustain the economies of their region with agriculture. We must do this to check the high rate of unemployment. We must also invest in education; grant scholarship to indigent students as well as other people oriented policies,” he said.

Nwosu who expressed confidence that he will emerge the PDP flag bearer in the governorship election in the state called on residents of the state to join hands with the government to make the state a better place for all, stating that  the governor has placed Abia on a sound footing judging by the quality of projects he has undertaken.

On whether he is not intimidated by the caliber of aspirants who are believed to be oiling their structures for the governorship race in 2015, Nwosu said he is best suited to sustain Gov. Orji’s legacies and added that he is still in the process of consultation with the people of the state.

“The era of consultation is not over.  I have been consulting the people of Abia state and beyond; consulting privately informing them about my intention and seeking for support. The support we are getting from the stakeholders and people across the state and beyond is unparalleled. I have my unique selling points which will be made known at the appropriate time. How can I be intimidated by any aspirant when majority of the stakeholders and people of the state are solidly behind me? My ambition is a mass movement and this tells you that it is a divine project,” Nwosu stated.
