For the past three weeks tension has been on the edge of the razor, in Aso Rock, Nigeria seat of power, as President Jonathan has come under severe pressure to shop for a running mate ahead the 2015 general election.
The arrow head of the campaign, Mallam Abdu – Azeez Sulieman, the co ordinator of Northern Emancipation Network, confirmed this much in an interview with 247.com in Abuja today, saying “ with Namadi Sambo, Jonathan could lose the 2015 election”.
The group in a press statement issued in Abuja, listed the sin of Namadi sambo which include his inability to restore peace in the North following the outbreak of Boko Haram in the North Eastern parts of Nigeria – His failure at the general elections in Kaduna, Zaria and his ward at Malali suburb of Kaduna metropolis.
Indeed his traducers had earlier been a search light on the multi Billion Naira Zaria water works projects which he awarded to his Company Nalado Construction, as governor of Kaduna state which has since been abandoned .
Unless they live in Afghanistan, even Namadi’s ardent supporters will agree with his legion of critics that nothing much has changed in the north.
Abdul Azeez , said this much “ even his party the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has witnessed massive defections to other political parties, as a sign that he is not even in control of the party in the region ”he said
In fact there is a palpable impression that the North has sunk deeper into the morass, in the last three years, many Northerners are horrified that the candidate who promise a transformation agenda, has failed to transform even his immediate political constituency.
But like the Biblical story of the voice of Easu and the hands of Jacob, Presidency sources who does not want his name unveil, told 247ureports.com that the presidency has come under intense pressure from some Northern elements, opposed to the leadership style of vice president Sambo.
The source points at the recent attempts by Namadi’s supporters in the Northern Elders’s Forum to garner supports for him, which led to the formation of Northern Elders’s council.
Already 247ureports.com learnt that the presidential handlers have gone to the drawing board in search of alternative as a result of the glowing opposition to Sambo’s staying in power.
Among the several options, is the appointment of Major Hamza Al –Mustapha, the former chief security officer to the late maximum Dictator, late General Sani Abacha, as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
“ with the dossiers of Northern politicians at the tip of his fingers, the oppositions will caved him. As it is apart from the South- South the only Northern Jonathan feel can protect him today is Al Mustapha” said our source.
Other option according to our usually reliable source is to prepare Al Mustapha for the 2019 presidential election, which could end sambo’s ambition of succeeding Jonathan in 2019.
