*CVR in 326 wards *as display of register ends in 4608 polling units
The display of what it called the ‘authentic’ voters register in
Anambra state ahead the forthcoming Nov 16, 2013 governorship election
in the area by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has
ended yesterday.
While the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) would start this
morning in the entire 326 wards covering the 4608 polling units in the
state.
This was disclosed by the Resident Electoral commission (REC), Prof
Chukwuemeka Onukogu during a media briefing at the weekend in Awka.
He warned citizens to avoid double or fraudulent registration,
pointing out that any such persons shall be apprehended and
prosecuted. That any voter whose records were not properly captured or
has complaint should alert the Commission at once.
The REC noted that the opportunity is only for those who just turned
18 since the last registration exercise and those who did not have
opportunity to register earlier. He said that those who lost their own
cards or relocated would need to undergo certain formalities for their
issues to be streamlined with the commission.
Fresh registration, according to him would be carried out in 53
polling units across the state where the data of potential voters were
not captured at all during the last exercise.
Prof Onukogu pointed out that INEC is restructuring the nation’s
electoral process positively side by side handling of election
matters.
