A socio- political group, Concerned Patriots of Nigeria (CPN) has challenged River state governor, Chibuike Amaechi and others to join APC and lose relevance in politics.
National Coordinator of the group, Barr. Olusegun Bamgose told 247ureports.com that Amaechi and some of his colleagues would have everything to lose if they actualize their threat to quit the PDP for the yet to be registered APC.
“ Amaechi and other PDP governors threatening to quit the party would be taking a risky gamble if they go ahead with their plans. It is not advisable for any PDP governor to defect to the yet to be registered APC which is not even an alternative party to the PDP. It amounts to political suicide for Amaechi or any of the PDP governors to embark on such moves; it will mark the end of their political careers. Let them know that many politicians in the past dispensation dump the PDP only to return to the party few months after they left.
“Amaechi should make peace with the president. Those urging him to quit PDP or be the arrow head of the opposition against Jonathan are not doing him any good. I’m afraid Amaechi will only realize this too late when they might have used and dumped him. They were elected on the platform of the PDP; the party made them what they are today. So, he should think twice before committing political suicide. How can he jump from a national party to a regional one yet to be registered? It would be counterproductive; any PDP governor who defects to the APC will lose relevance in politics. Before Amaechi and his colleagues jump to the APC, let them make inquiries about the situation of things in the party because they can never have it easy in APC. Let them ask some APC governors, the party’s leadership is dictatorial and unprogressive,” he said.
On whether governors opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition can stop him in 2015, Bamgbose said no amount of gang up can stop Jonathan from winning in 2015.
“No force or gang will stop Jonathan from being re-elected in 2015. He is destined to rule beyond 2015. People should not be confused with all these solidarity visits to Amaechi or to Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, by Govs. Sule Lamido, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Muazu Babangida and Nyako, these things you see are all politics; a lot of things will take shape before 2015 election. Most of these governors you think are opposing Jonathan would even be his state or Zonal campaign coordinators in 2015. This is not the first time such things are taking place. If they form an alliance or merger of all the political parties in Nigeria against Jonathan, he will outsmart them. So, whether it is the APC a minority party which I know will collapse before 2015 or any name you call it, they would only win few states. The PDP will still retain majority of the 36 states and the presidency.”
