The Campaign for Democracy (CD), South-East Region has urged Anambra House of Assembly to extend the length of its on-going probe of the state’s council area funds to seven years.

“The limiting the house probe to only two years is not in the interest of Ndi-Anambra, whose council funds have not been equaled the level of anticipated development and empowerment in the 21 council areas of the state,’’ CD said in a statement.

This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by CD in OnitshaAnambraState on Saturday.

The statement was signed by Dede Uzor A. Uzor, Chairman, CD South-East Region.

“CD criticizes Anambra State House of Assembly for limiting its probe to only two years in Gov. Peter Obi’s administration instead of the whole seven years the governor had spent in government.

“CD is calling on the members to wake-up from slumber and start acting in the best interest of the citizens of the state that they are elected to represent,’’ it said.

CD said, further, that the present administration might have collected over N300 billion within the past seven years as funds accruing to the council areas.

“And in the history of the 14 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in the country, the present administration is the only one that have not conducted council election within over seven years of his eight years two-terms in office.

“If, after the house’s 14-day ultimatum, it fails to expand and carry out the probe faithfully as it had agreed to conduct; Ndi-Anambra will see them as a rubber stamp and the worst legislative house in the history of Nigeria,’’ it said.

CD called on Gov. Obi as a matter of uttermost immediacy to start the process of conduction the council election before the up-coming governorship election, which would tentatively hold in November this year.

In a related development, CD condemned the alleged querying of traditional rulers in Anambra State for simply honouring an individual invitation extend to them for Chief Ifeanyi Uba younger brother’s wedding in Lagos.

“We are urging Gov. Obi and his aides to respect the sanctity and sacredness of the traditional institution in Igbo-Land.

“And allegedly stop unnecessary harassment of respected royal fathers of the land as well as involving politics into innocent moves and socialization they engage in.
