COMMUNIQUE ISSUED FROM THE REGIONAL MEETING AS HELD BY THE CAMPAIGN FOR DEMOCRACY (CD) AT UBAJI DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, UWANA. AFIKPO, EBONYI STATE ON FRIDAY 27TH APRIL 2013.
CALL FOR TOTALLY PARTICIPATION OF SOUTHEAST IN 2015 ELECTION, REJECTS AMNESTY FOR BOKO HARAM, REQUEST FOR AMNESTY FOR UWAZURUIKE AND AL-MUSTPHA
The CD southeast meeting as held in Ebonyi state, during which issues on the state of the Southeast region and the nation was discussed , the following resolutions were made-:
1) We call on the good citizens of the southeast to start getting prepared for the election of 2015; the necessitation of this call is based on the backwardness of the development in the southeast region.
There is every need for the people to prepare and be at alert, in order to make sure that in 2015 no looter is allowed in any public elected office, This is to protect their vote against election rigging. That is the only way through which we can protect our future in governance.
CD is working hard towards organizing voters Education programme in the southeast state, as before we call on all in the southeast to be part of this programme. That we all will join hands together and build a better democracy in region and the nation.
2) We are surprised that President Goodluck Jonathan suddenly turned around and started talking of granting amnesty to the Boko Haram, when the same President during his visit to Yobe and Borno states, stated that he will not grant amnesty to the Boko Haram as they are faceless people.
The CD southeast totally condemned the amnesty programme as that will create more conflict and crime increase in the nation, this will lead to the increase of militant groups who will believe that if they involved themselves in any form of terrorism that leads to the loss of lives and properties, that they will be granted amnesty. The case of the Boko Hara is different from that of the Niger Delta, because the Niger Delta militant are for economic purpose. While that of the Boko Haram is that of selish political interest that turned into a religious group and now a terrorism group that has wasted lives than any other group in this nation.
The Boko Haram issue is an open disdain of President Jonathan’s government by the northerners, and evidence of exhibition of the northern selfish interest of the notion that they are born to rule.
We hereby plead with Mr. President to equip all the security agencies both in logistics and protocols so as to bring to an end the Boko Haram problem.
We also suggest the Colombian system to be applied in the Boko Haram issue, that the government should go underground and get the problem solved.
3) We congratulate His Excellency the former Governor of Abia State, His Excellence Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, for his projection of the suffering of the southeast region in the issue that have to do with Nigeria as a nation at the British Parliament
We praise his effort as it is in the right direction for the southeast course, if out of the 53years of Nigeria existence as a nation and that the southeast had only governor the nation for only few months, then it is disheartening.
This action of Orji Uzor Kalu is a move that every southeast person has to give support, as that is the only way equity can be established in Nigeria.
4) The CD southeast totally disagree with the Supreme Court judgment, that uwazarike and others should be tried for treason, if OPC and the Niger Delta and now the Boko Haram.
Militants who committed more atrocities than Uwazuruike and his group are granted amnesty then why the trial of Uwazuruike.
The pronouncement of the court future establish the insinuation that had hean held long ago that the Nigeria factor as a nation marginalized and reegate the Igbo’s to the back ground and if possible to delete their existence from the nation Nigeria. If the Boko Haram are to be granted amnesty then let Uwazuruike be granted amnesty.
5) The CD calls for the inclusion and release of Major Al- Mustapha in the amnesty process, as this is one of the ways of bringing peace and stability to the nation.
It is obvious today that those who are holding Al- Mustapha in prison are doing so for their own personal interest and not for the nation, with the call for amnesty and which President Godluck Jonathan had been hand twisted to accept, What Al-Mustapha committed was minor to what we have seen today, whereby thousands have died because of some selfish interest of some people.
6) We pray that as we prepare for the coming election that God will help us as a region and nation in Nigeria to get help from above to vote the right candidates that theregion and the nation will experience true democracy.
