The ‎replacement for the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu who died recently may have caused friction between President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader of APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to reports, the party has named Alhaji Yahaya Bello as its new governorship candidate and retained Hon James Faleke as the deputy governorship candidate for the Kogi governo‎rship supplementary election.

While President Muhammadu Buhari is believed to have given the party leadership the nod to replace Prince Audu with Yahaya Bello, Senator Tinubu is rooting for his political godson, Hon. James Faleke to step in as governorship candidate.

The camp of Senator Tinubu is irked by the reported interference of President Buhari in Kogi politics as against his renowned quote, “I belong to everybody, I belong to nobody”.

As a counter action, Tinubu has reportedly hired a team of legal luminaries led by Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN to mount legal landmines on the path of Buhari’s choice, Yahaya Bello. ‎

Hon. ‎Faleke in the four page letter written by his counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun and entitled RE: JUST CONCLUDED GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN KOGI STATE -APC SHOULD NOT SIDETRACK JAMES ABIODUN FALEKE OR SUPER IMPOSE ON HIM ANY OTHER PERSON OR CANDIDATE, indicates he may heads to court if the party eventually settle for Yahaya Bello as its governorship candidate. ‎

A party leader confirmed the internal wrangling within the APC: “There was also some conspiracy behind the refusal of the ticket for Faleke. Some presidency forces stamped their feet that he must not be allowed to step into Audu’s shoes because of internal power struggles in APC.
“I won’t give you names but the forced were more powerful than Oyegun and other NWC members.”‎
