Nasarawa State Commissioner of Education,Hon.Ahmed Tijjani Aliyu has revealed that the outgoing administration has constructed over 700 classrooms in the last seven years.
He gave the disclosure during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists at his abode in 500 Housing Units along Doma road.
He averred that the outgoing administration under the headship of governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura inherited a comatose education sector.
Hon.Tijjani said the commitment of Al-Makura is a clear testimony of government at work,stating the outgoing administration would do more in the less than two months by turning around public schools.
“Governor Al-Makura met public schools in total jeopardy and our dream is to make our schools compete with other States of the Federation in times of conducive learning environment”.
“You are aware of the construction of storey buildings across the thirteen Local Governments and also the total expansion and renovation of public schools”these part of our concerted effort to reshape our schools,he added.
“I would also inform you that many schools especially those that were destroyed by rainstorm passed through reconstruction and renovation and this feat would continue till our handing over”Tijjani promised.
The Commissioner listed some of the schools undergoing renovation and reconstruction to include Government Secondary School,Doma North as,GSS Wamba,GSS Amba,GSS Agwada,GSS Azara,GSD Awe, Government College,Obi G.C Wamba.
Other Schools destroyed by rainstorm that passed through either renovation or reconstruction work are Sports Academy, Akwanga, Government Girls Science School,Garaku,GSS Keana,GSS Sabon Gida and amongst others.
The Commissioner expressed dismay over the conditions of government schools,which described as a total sham.
“I will repeat again by saying when we assumed office by May 29,2011 the education sector was in shamble marred by maladroit teachers,acute shortage of classrooms”.
