The crisis rocking the Adamawa State House of Assembly has continued
unabated with no end in sight.
When the House went on a recess that was seen as due to pressure, it
was expected they will resume 27th of April, the House is yet to open
for business.
Reports have it that eleven of the legislators want the Speaker Rt.
Honourable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri removed or impeached as Speaker.
The House has 25 members and the remaining 14 members are loyal to the Speaker.
There are allegations making the rounds that the Governor of the
State allegedly wants the Speaker removed no matter under what
circumstances an allegation denied by the eleven legislators.
The Speakers side alleges that the Governor who hails from the same
locality with the Speaker and that is Madagali Local Government Area
allegedly handed the sum of N200million for the impeachment exercise.
But Adamawa people are expressing worry that two kinsmen are holding
the state to ransome.
Workers of the Assembly were seen outside the premises as Policemen
attached to the House refused to open the gate.
A statement issued by one of the 11 members Umar Abdulkareem are
accusing the Speaker of dictatorship.
The eleven members under the leadership of Honourable Jerry Kumdisi
want the House unsealed and accused the Speaker of high handedness and
However, Press Secretary to the Speaker Solomon Kumangar when
contacted did not give reasons for the closure of the House but
insists there was no stalemate in the House.
According to Mr. Kumangar, the Assembly as is currently, does not
wish to join issues with anyone and urges the public not to be misled
by rumours of a stalemate.
