The last may not have been heard about the recent fight between Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and his siblings at the state government house, Owerri as investigation revealed that the fight was a make-up of the governor and his family members.
The governor and his siblings—Mrs. Geraldine Obinali, Chief Gerald Okorocha, Iyke Okorocha, Ogechi Ololo and others— were involved in fisticuffs some days before Christmas in the state government house.
This, it was learnt, was as a result of the governor not allowing them direct access to the state treasury. During the fight, the governor’s brothers accused him of wickedly trying to impoverish them by denying them access to funds and contracts unlike the way other governors treated their siblings and family members.
Okorocha also confirmed the incident to journalists on Christmas Eve and had been going about telling different groups about it including the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Imo State chapter, who paid him a courtesy visit after New Year.
But, investigations by 247ureports.com revealed that the fight was made up by the governor following series of allegation by the members of the opposition and even those in his government that the Okorocha government is a family business in which only members of the family get very juicy contracts, most of which were allegedly paid upfront before the commencement and completion of the projects.
A very reliable government house source told 247ureports.com that the governor had been terribly disturbed by the activities of his siblings, which had earned his administration the sobriquet, “My family, my family” instead of the usual “my governor, my governor” as a response to his normal chanting “my people, my people”..
The source disclosed that because the bad impressions so far created by that, the governor decided to make up the fight to tell the public that even the members of his family were equally starved of funds for the benefit of Imo society.
“This is why when the people complain that the governor is not circulating money into the economy of the state, the governor will try to disabuse their minds by telling them that even his own family members are complaining too. That is why he will tell you that her first daughter, Uloma, is now selling coke and fanta in front of government house.
“But we know that these things are ways by which he wants the people to see him as the man who only cares about the people. In fact, let me ask you? Haven’t you heard that every contract in this government, Geraldine has up to 30 percent? Or haven’t you heard that Iyke Okorocha (Ude Ogboko) is one of the billionaire owners of a quarry site in Okigwe? Look at Ogechi Ololo that designed this Christmas Village in front of government house, that place cost the state government a whopping N150 million for her to do that. This is little compared to so many contracts that she had carried out in the past that runs up to billions. Or, are we talking about Uche Nwosu, his inlaw that is personally installing all the street lights in the state? So our governor knows what he is doing?”
The source said because many people in the state understood the governor was trying to sell a dummy that was the reason he had not attracted any sympathy from the people of the state.
