Only Enemies Of Kano Will Oppose Sanusi As Emir – Kwankwaso
Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state is known for being blunt on issues, especially when his interests are at stake. Kwankwaso a few days ago had an interview with select newsmen where he defended the choice of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano. DONALD OJOGO was there for LEADERSHIP.
Out of the three candidates for the Emirship, why did you pick Sanusi Lamido Sanusi?
Let me start by condoning the families of the late Emir of Kano, the entire people of Kano State and indeed our state government over the death of our father, Alhaji Dr. Ado Bayero who has served for over five decades.
He has done so much for the state and indeed the entire country when he ruled. He was a reservoir of knowledge and so he gave so much to the state. The issue of installation of a new Emir has not happened since even the first governor, who was appointed in 1967. And you can see that the appointment is entirely new to most of us.
In fact among the kingmakers only one participated in the selection of the late emir Ado Bayero. When I came back on Saturday because I didn’t want to leave room for speculations and mischief making, I decided to invite the four kingmakers and I asked them to brief me.
They briefed me and I asked them to go and consult and come back the following day being Sunday. They came back and told me their position. And of course when I told them to go and come back to brief me, mischief makers started mischief and before they came on Sunday, we saw on Television and heard on radio that PDP people and the federal government decided to appoint new Emir. That was what started the whole confusion.
When my attention was called, I quickly asked the commissioner of information to ask the radio and TV stations to stop what they were broadcasting.
And then we sat down together with them and from the list, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was the best, he emerged number one based on their recommendations and of course the governor had every reason to choose among the recommended once and in some cases the governor even has the right to reject even those that were being recommended by the kingmakers.
Selecting an Emir has nothing to do with federal government; it is purely a state government issue. We have heard so many stories including the one that they should go and withdraw my security and police. At the same time they went and instigated some young men to demonstrate and we felt that because we have no option, ours was to mobilise our people. We brought in thousands of people from within and outside of the city of Kano to protect us.
The more I think of the appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the more I feel comfortable and happy because today anybody who is a friend to Rabiu Kwankwaso and people of Kano State will be very happy because the man is qualified by any standard, by way of education, qualified in Islamic education, he was grandson and son of the Emir and all the qualities that are required to appoint an emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has got them and I believe he is the best. Of course some people are not happy with him so that want to create tension and crisis in Kano.
Was your decision on the new Emir political because there is this allegation that some APC leaders were around before you announced and the papers also reported that you admitted being under pressure. What really transpired, what was the business of the APC?
For those people who do not know you can hardly put me under pressure. By the grace of God, we have unlimited capacity to do things and by my conscience and conviction if something is right it is right I go ahead and do it. And if something is wrong no matter who, within or outside my party, certainly I won’t go ahead to do it.
I can assure you that even in APC people have got different opinions. You have leaders in APC who on the one hand are supporters of Sanusi while others are supporters of other candidates maybe because of their personal relation or political ground so it is not true to say that all members of the APC are supporting Sanusi.
But I believe most of them and people in Kano State except enemies are supporting Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, because he is qualified in every aspect and in each of the items he emerged number one.
Therefore it is not right to say there was any political consideration. Of course political consideration in a way is not important because we can see that we need qualified person who can do the job and do it very well.
Sanusi is not only a local figure in Kano State, he is not only recognised in this country, Sanusi is an international figure and I have been receiving calls not only from Kano or Nigeria but beyond congratulating me and this is the sort of people that we need as an Emir; somebody who can project everybody, somebody who can stand by the right thing, somebody that is contented not somebody that will be beginning people for arms and so on. And that is exactly what we have done.
Did you pick Sanusi because as a kind of trade-off for the presidential ticket of the APC and that there was a kind of bargain?
Sanusi does not own a presidential ticket. Nobody owns a presidential ticket except the members and leadership of the APC of which Sanusi has not joined our party. But I know that right in his mind he is one of the progressives whether in or out of politics who wants to see not only Kano but the country projected in good light; that wants to see progress in the country and I am sure Kano will use his wealth of experience to grow to the next level.
How many candidates were recommended to you by the king makers?
Six people showed interest, three were presented, and Sanusi is on the top of the three and that was why we picked him. But that is not the issue, I told you governor can take number one, two and three and he can decide to reject all of them and take another one. That is the law.
Is there any possibility that you will review the appointment of Sanusi as Emir.
I told you earlier that the more I think about it the more I believe I did the right thing. Everybody who is a friend and is objective supports this appointment. If you look at it only elements of federal government in Kano State who are organising protest and destruction certainly because they are worried we have the right person.
Have you received any petition from any of the princes?
What petition? You can’t petition. What are you going to petition? If this man is not qualified then you can say he is not qualified and then we look at the requirement.
You earlier said you are not obliged to pick from list and you can pick from outside the list. If he wasn’t would you have picked him?
I don’t want to go into that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi applied, he was on the top list of the three. And I picked so why are you going back to that issue.
Are you more politically relevant than before now that you are touted as a possible presidential aspirant of the APC?
Let me at this point thank Mr. President for making me important and relevant. When I was in PDP I was nothing. Even my 2011 PDP ticket was a real fight for two weeks, the tension was so high.
After winning the elections and over 90 percent of the votes they still canceled it and we had a rerun because they didn’t wnat to give me my own ticket after I have won my primary. That is PDP for you.
Now I am in a party where even my wife and my father I didn’t tell anybody under the sun that I am interested in becoming president, now you are telling me that people are mentioning my name, let me see the party. Even to get ticket to become the governor they didn’t want to give me, now I am sitting here and they are mentioning my name I thank almighty God.
What is your reaction to the reduction of your security by 50 percent; are you safe?
I want to say that I think they are up to something; I don’t know their intention, I don’t know what they are going to do next. But I have to say like every other person in this country that we are concerned about security in the country.
On the other hand our lives are in the hands of the almighty God. But the bottom line is that we are seeing a signal, a sign that there is a level of mischief coming from other places and I want to put it on record that whatever happens to me, my family and state, Jonathan should be held responsible.

Muslims Against Terror Strongly Condemns The Killings And Attacks By Takfiri Muslims (ISIL) Terrorists In Iraq
16 June 2014, 18 Sha’aban 1435
Assalamu alaykum (Peace Be Upon you)
We the Muslims Against Terror, totally condemn the attacks of the Sunni Islamic extremist Takfiri Group i.e the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), affiliates to Al-Qaeda terrorists Organizations that operate in both Iraq and Syria that have captured several Iraqi Cities and pushed the country into deadly and barbaric chaos.
This Extremists Group (ISIS) is a terrorists organization who are killing the innocent people in cities, attacking the Government of Iraq and whose goal is to establish a radical State that violates the principles of Islam and the noble prophet.
The militant groups (ISIS) vows to inflame ethnic tensions between Sunni and Shiite Muslims living in Iraq, a move that could push the country and its neighbors into a full -fledged civil war.
And their actions have been predicted. It is written:
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) said; If he was here in the “End Time” when these people are doing these barbaric acts, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) will be the first to kill them himself.
A people will come out at the “End of Time”, Immature, Foolish and Corrupt. They will hold the discourse of the best of creation and recite the Quran, but it will not past their throats. They will pass through religion, the way an arrow passes through its quarray. If you find them, kill them, for verily whoever kills them will have his reward for Allah in “The Day of Judgment”
Dear brothers, sisters and “People of the Book” (Christians and Jews) in Iraq.
We the Muslims against Terror stand as our duty of Muslims to establish the proof of Islam to the people so that truth can be made clear from falsehood. After that, whoever wishes to accept Islam may do so, and whoever wishes to continue upon unbelief may do so. No one should be threatened or harmed in any way, if he does not wish to accept Islam.
Islam gives members of other Faiths, the right to practice their Faiths. Islam does not compel people of other Faiths to convert. It has given them complete freedom to retain their own Faith and not be forced to embrace Islam. This freedom is documented in both the Quran and the Prophetic teachings known as Sunnah. God addresses the Prophet Muhammad in the Quran:
“If it had been your Lord’s will, they would all have believed – all of who are on Earth! Will you their compel humankind, against their will, to believe?” (Quran 10:99).
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) states it clear; there is freedom of worship, i.e you shall worship your religion. “Let there be no compulsion in religion. Truth has been made clear from error. Whoever rejects false worship and believes in God has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that never breaks and God hears and knows all things” (Quran 2:256)
God says what means:
“Anyone who kills a human being – it shall be as though he has killed all of mankind. If anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he has saved the lives of all mankind”. These provide proof that Islam forbids killing of the innocent. (Holy Quran 5:32).
It is written in Holy Quran 22:39-40:
Allah (s) declares in the Quran; permission (To Fight) has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory. 40 (They are) those who have been evicted from their homes without right – only because they say “Our Lord is Allah. And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, Churches, Synagogues and Mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is powerful and exalted in Might.
For those who call themselves SUnni and those who call themselves Shia, let them know that there is only One Ummah, and everyone else who divides himself and names his sects or groups has erred. “And hold fast to the Rope of Allah, and be not divided among yourselves” Quran 3:103
As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did. Quran 6:159
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result. Quran 4:59 Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah ]. And he was not of the polytheists. Quran 3:67
And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, “Indeed, I am of the Muslims.” Quran 41:33
Say: “O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah.” If then they turn back, say ye: “Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah’s Will). Quran 3:64.
I on behalf of Muslims Against terror organization condemned the attacks and killing of innocent people in Iraq by Takfiri Islamic Extremist of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
We support the efforts of Nouri-Al Maliki, the Prime Minister of Iraqi towards restoring peace and reconciliation, and we urge Iraqi citizens, Youths, Christians, and Muslims to volunteer in their City to carry arms to wage “Jihad” (Struggle, Strive) to fight and defend themselves, their cities and country against this Islamic Extremists Militants (ISIL), The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
It is a National “Jihad” (struggle, strive) and that, it is the patriotic duty of its sons who are able to bear arms to defend their country, their people, their Holy cities by volunteering to join the Iraqi security forces to fight and defeat these Islamic Insurgents (ISIL) in Iraq. We urges and advice Iraqi politicians to put aside their difference and unite in support for the military to fight these Insurgents (ISIL), the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an affiliates to Al-Qaeda terrorists organization in their country.
We also call upon the International Community, the UN, USA, etc and the help of the neighboring countries (The Multinational Joint Task Forces) for collaboration between the Government of Iraq led by Nouri Al-maliki to assist and fight this Islamic Insurgents (ISIL) affiliates to Al-Qaeda terrorists organization.
We advise the international community against reckless meddling – it was their reckless actions in Syria that trained armed these Takfiri elements who now threaten the peace of the entie Middle East and world.
We offer condolences to the families of all the innocent people killed by the terrorists, also the families of Iraqi Soldiers who died in defending their countries by the “Religious fanatics” of Al-Qaeda.
We stand with them in solidarity during these difficult times. We pray for Peace, Love, Freedom and Security to return to Iraq, Syria, Nigeria etc and the rest of all Muslim Ummah and the world, in the name of Allah (swt) our Lord we pray (Amin). May Allah (God) guide and protect them (Amen).

Re: Operation Know Your Neighbour Launched In Imo
Imo State Government
Press Release
Following the bomb incident that took place on Sunday at the Winners Chapel Church off Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, in which case three bombs were discovered and later detonated by the Police, the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in collaboration with the security Chiefs in the state have come up with some security measures to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the state, with one of such measures being the launching of “Operation Know Your Neighbour” by the state Governor on Monday, June 16, 2014 at a special security meeting in Owerri, with the service chiefs in the state in attendance.
Launching the programme, Governor Okorocha contended that nobody comes into a state to commit crime of any kind without an internal collaborator, adding that since those who commit these crimes are human beings they must also be residents somewhere, and their neighbours should equally be able to know them and what they do.
Other security measures announced by the governor are:
- Hotels in the state should install security cameras and on daily basis always forward the list of their guests to the Director of SSS.
- Trailers bringing food items from the North would no longer be allowed to come into the state at night but only in the day, and the food items would be off-loaded at a designated place off the state capital.
- Residents in the state must also be careful with broken bottles, cans, leather bags, parked Tankers and vehicles around their homes, public places and public buildings.
- Traditional rulers in the state were directed to summon emergency meetings of their various communities to take stock of strange faces living with them.
- Uncompleted buildings in the cities in the state and environs without security guards will be taken over by the government because criminals use them as hideouts.
- Lands left fallow for several years and not used for any economic or gainful purpose but taken over by criminals will be ceased by the government.
- Smoking of Indian hemp was also banned.
- A meeting of all non-indigenes in the state has also been fixed.
On the bombs discovered at Winners Chapel Church, the Governor said it was aimed at making Imo people mourn and to put the state in disarray; adding that the prayers of Imo people did not allow the bombs to explode, and said that, there was no bomb in Government House as being rumoured.
He praised the security chiefs in the state for their cooperation and hard work adding that Imo people are lucky to have such caliber of security chiefs in the state; and called all hands to be on deck.
The governor also remarked that the Igbos are not fools, but smart people who know how to defend themselves.

486 Suspected Insurgents Arrested In Abia
The 144 battalion of the Nigerian Army, Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State last Sunday arrested a convoy of 33 buses conveying 486 suspected insurgents including eight females between Aro Ngwa and Imo Gate along the Enugu- Port Harcourt expressway.
The suspects intercepted around 3am on Sunday, claimed to have come from different parts of the Northern states and aged mainly between 16 and 24 and were said to be searching for jobs.
Briefing newsmen at the Headquarters of the 144 Battalion of the Army, Asa where the suspects are being detained, alongside the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Charles Ajunwa and Commander of the military base, Lieutenant Colonel Rasheed Omolori who confirmed the arrest, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Abia State, Dr. Eze Chikamnayo, explained that two buses escaped with their occupants.
Although Lieutenant Colonel Omolori declined comment, he said the incident has been reported to the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The Commissioner said the sheer size of the movement made it suspicious, adding that none of the suspects was able to identify the location they were heading to and wondered how such a long motorcade could not be intercepted by security personnel until they reached Abia.
Dr. Chikamnayo said that at the moment, the Army and other security agencies in the state were working to unravel the actual mission of the suspects and those behind the movement.
The Information boss thanked the state Governor, Chief Theodore Orji for creating the enabling environment and investing resources for security personnel to do their job effectively as well as lauded the men of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for being alive to their responsibility.
He was of the view that if other security personnel in other parts of the country will do as much as their counterparts in Abia, insurgency in the country will be a thing of the past.
“I expect every state to work hand-in-hand with their security personnel to check insurgency. Every security problem is local and if we handle it locally it will be nipped in the bud,” he said.
He cited the case of Abia State during the days of kidnapping and how it was taken as an Abia problem and condemned the idea of demonstrating in Abuja over matters that should be handled locally.
APC Statement On Edo House Of Assembly Crisis
The All Peoples’ Congress (APC) Edo State, has watched with a growing sense of concern, the unfolding drama playing out at the Edo State House of Assembly.
Various persons, including the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), have made comments and pronouncements concerning the fate that befell the decampee members of the House of Assembly who were suspended by their colleagues on 9th June, 2014.
In order to clarify the issues involved and debunk the irresponsible, self-serving comments and acts of contempt being perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its new-found partners, it is necessary to give a short review of the sequence of events leading up to this point.
On the 9th of May, 2014, three (3) members of the House of Assembly (i.e. Hon. Jude Ise-Iden, Partrick Osayimwen and Friday Ogieriakhi) approached the Federal High court in Benin City in Suit No. FHC/B/CS/48/14 wherein they sought and obtained an Ex-Parte Order of Interim Injunction restraining the Speaker and the House from declaring their seats vacant and/or suspending them pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice which they also filed in the same suit.
The said Motion on Notice was subsequently argued and on the 6th of June 2014 the Hon. Justice A. M. Liman of the Federal High Court, whilst granting an Injunction restraining the Speaker and the House from declaring the seats of the Applicants vacant, however refused the prayer for an injunction restraining the Applicants from being suspended from membership of the house as he held: –
“That the disciplinary power of the House is not subject to the judicial review of the Court, accordingly the application to restrain the 2nd Respondent from suspending the applicants from the House is hereby refused”.
On the 9th of June, 2014, the members of the Edo State House of Assembly, acting within their powers duly recognised by His Lordship, Justice A. M. Liman in the ruling earlier referred to, suspended four (4) of its members for an indefinite period for the offence of misconduct as provided for under Order 38 of the Rules of Procedure of the House of Assembly.
The said members were: –
(1) HON. FESTUS EBEA
(2) HON. PATRICK OSAYIMWEN
(3) HON. JUDE ISE-IDEHEN
(4) HON. FRIDAY OGIERIAKHI
Upon the failure of the said members to comply with the suspension order and their acts of forcible entry into the premises and chambers of the House of Assembly the House and its Principal Officers filed Suit No. B/70/0S/2014 at the Edo State High Court and on the 11th of June, 2014, the Court granted an Order Restraining the said four (4) suspended members along with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, and the Edo State Commissioner of Police from:
“forcibly gaining entrance into the premises and Legislative Quarters of the 3rd Claimant or howsoever interfering with the sitting activities and other functions of the 3rd Claimant pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.”
Notwithstanding the fact that the suspended Honourable Members were represented in Court on the 11th June, 2014 by Chief Ferdinand Orbih SAN when the Order of Injunction was made, the Court further ordered that they be served by Advertisement in one National and one Local Newspaper.
Despite the service of the processes including the Order of Injunction on all the parties, the suspended members have continued to create tension and chaos in the House of Assembly and its environs by forcibly entering into the premises and chambers of the House of Assembly aided by numerous thugs and (rather unfortunately) officers and men of the Nigeria Police force.
We are informed that these contemnors claim, rather erroneously, that they can act in defiance and disobedience of the positive order of Court on the ground that they are pursuing an appeal against the order.
It is an elementary principle of our Legal System that an Order of a Court remains valid and subsisting which all parties must comply with unless and until it is set aside by the Court which issued same or a Court of Appeal.
The All Peoples Congress (APC) believes that the actions of the suspended members and the Police at the prodding of hierarchy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is a clear and present threat to the peace and order of the State and constitutes a calculated slap in the face of the Judiciary.
We call upon all concerned well meaning citizens, in particular the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to prevail on the suspended lawmakers, their political leaders and their uniformed collaborators to stop these acts of needless defiance and impunity and show due respect to the judiciary, the rule of law and our respected royal fathers.
We believe that we all have a collective duty to protect and preserve the institutions of democracy as provided for in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Signed:
Anselm Ojezua,
Chairman,
APC, Edo State
Press Release By The Christian Association Of Nigeria Kachia Local Government Branch In Respect To The Religious Crisis Of 11th May, 2014
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Since 2000, Kachia has remained the choice place for habitation by all irrespective of one.s religion, tribe, creed or alienation chose to belong. This is as a result of the peaceful and mutual correlation that was existing amongst its habitants.
As all may know, Kachia is the head quarter of the Adara people and everybody came to meet them on their land whether since pre-colonial days or not. And all persons living in Adara chiefdom know that the gospel of peace, respect for human life, dignity and mutual understanding for harmonious coexistence. human and economy development and free practicing of religion has been the heart desire of our dearly Agom Adara His Royal Highness, Mr. Maiwada Galadima, the council chairman Hon. Peter Agite, CAN as a whole and our Christian elders. That is why we have agreed to live peacefully with all people because, as Christians we are people of peace and we believe it.
Therefore it became quite worrisome to the Christians community having made to rest assured that all is well and believing this to be true, were taken off guard and were forced to incur losses of lives of their members and properties running into hundreds of millions of naira to Hausa Muslim youths through an orchestrated cover up fashioned to look like a crisis to all but with the sale aim of making the lives of Christians miserable and difficult by attacking their economy. Whatever cause they were fighting and standing for, one thing stood out “the Christians must be finished”. These were the hand writings and marks that were left written on the state, left for all to see. Having allayed these we as the Christians community in Kachia wish to let the world see how we as a people have been stabbed at the back and will like to tell how a litany of lies is been crafted by the security apparatus to make a plight look simple before the world.
AYORS POI’NTIN’G TO TROUBLE (CRISIS)
We the entire Christian notice some events that were showing up that there were plans towards attacking us or else said crisis, these events were reported to the appropriate quarters but the steps taken to correct those measures were played off through the channels because the actions taken were refused to be followed since what was plan is believed to be followed and few days after, Christians were attacked. Some of these indicators were thus;
1. All Muslims girls that usually come to Gumel for petty trading suddenly stop for about three months; this situation was reported in the security meeting., because it was suspicious.
2. Despite the law promulgated by the Kaduna state government banning group hunting in the state, the Muslim youths in Kachia refused to adhere to this law. They were frequently seen going out in large groups under the pretence of hunting but were going for training with an expert called Staff Sgt Nuhu Musa (Baba Maryam). The issue of the hunting was reported in the security meeting.
The district head was mandated to call their leader to order but they district head reported that they boys refused to take instruction. Before the chairman could swing into action, the crisis erupted.
3. Provocative words like, we are ready for you infidels in Kachia, and we shall finish you up because we are ready for you now. Today is not years past. There were other issues of such even some were reported to the security agents.
4. On 8th May, 2014. A young man called Samaila Mainama openly told a woman that they are ready for all infidels in Kachia, she promised Samaila and his group of more than fifty that should anything happens she would report it to the appropriate quarters. Which she did.
5. On 11th May, 2014, we observed that in the morning which was Sunday, all shops belonging to Muslims were closed and all their cars and trucks were moved by them to their zone for safe keeping that was seen around 6:30 – 7:00am by the Christian faithful that were going for Mass. This strongly show that there already a plan on ground.
From the indicators above, the world should know that Christians did not at any point attacked Muslim or cause any upheavals in Kachia rather the Muslim community perfectly planned and attacked Christians on Sunday 11th May 2014 while in their places of worship, looting their shops, burning their houses and church
3.0 THE CRISIS
The said cover up called the crisis was sparked off when a part of Eid fence was. damaged (this fence was still under construction and not even half finished. Emphasis here is for the listener to have an over view of the wall and not to have the notion that it was a full structure). The damaged took place on the 10th of April and 11th of May respectively.
The first damage on the Eid fence by unknown persons on 10th April, 2014 brought an uproar by the Muslim youths who stormed the area throwing stones at the security operatives present even injuring some, until concerted efforts we’re made before calm was ensued because, the Council Chairman Hon Peter Agite took steps for rebuilding of the broken parts and it was done immediately. While the dust was setting, exactly after a Month, part of the fence was noticed that it was tempered with, on time, the Council Chairman instructed for the replacement of the part damaged which required not less than five blocks and it was remade before 7:00am so that nobody will even know that something of such nature has happened. But the Muslim youth, who were already made up, mobilized themselves under their choice leader Alhaji Ali Maikyalli and started unleashing terror on the innocent Christians faithful who were quite worshipping in their churches who had to abandon their devotion half way. The Christians were told that, the Muslim youths have smashed a car parked by devotees by name Mr. IlIiya Panga while worshipping and had damaged the wall of Nasara Baptist Church. Also, another group burgled a shop in Ungwan Ganima and also a beer parlour. The Muslims started all the destructions not the Christians as some Media claimed. It is pertinent to note that in the history of religious crisis in Nigeria Christians have never been the first to causes one and Kachia is not an exception.
The very unfortunate part in the whole saga was when the security men assured the faithful of Nasara Baptist Church to go home rather than stay to protect their church because curfew was put in place but just to see their church going up in flames. And much later for the houses of Christians around the stadium area went on flames. These provoked the Christian youths to react.
The first persons killed by the soldiers were residence of Gumel who were held in apprehension by the story of the happenings in Kachia. They were not in riot mood. They had not received the news of the curfew only to be warned by reckless direct shots that claimed the lives two of our youths and other left with score of buUets shots. In addition to the activities of the soldiers, they followed some of our people into their houses/rooms, molested them for doing nothing and even arresting under age.
Furthermore, the Muslim youths were seen in ungwan Shakarua and other spots in Nigerian Army uniform with sophisticated weapons which they used to attack the Christian and also burned their houses. The better story is with the security operative who arrested those people.
4.0 DEDUCTIONS FROM THE COVER CALLED CRISIS
a. Reaction by the Muslim Umma and some publications made by some biased reporters like vanguard of Friday May 16th 2014 (that Christians broke the Eid fence) is not true. The very action of the Muslim Umma is quite unfortunate, having attacked on the 10th of April a bus belonging to the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) and on the 11th May looting the shops and burning down of the properties of Christians indicates an indictment and therefore we wish to state categorically that, that must cease and never repeat itself.
b. That the selected looting of shops and houses of Christians and setting ablaze what cannot be taken of low value is unfortunate and suggest a pre-meditated action targeted at the economy of Christians.
c. That the Army was led by Major General Alkali Madibo (Muslim) the commandant of NASA. He made the arrest of both Christian and Muslim youths suspects during the crisis not the DPO and during such arrest, religion and tribe was not identified as an issue. This should be known also that the people who were arrested and taken to the state CtO head quarters in Kaduna were those arrested with weapons and army uniforms during the crisis of cause; they were taken to Kaduna at the order of the police policies. Only in Kaduna they discovered that they were Muslims. That means that the actors who where Muslims were found with sophisticated weapons which indicates the level of their preparedness against the Christians.
Furthermore, the DPO did not lead in the arrest of suspects during the crisis and there was no place or act that the council Chairman and the D.P.O connived to carry out such act of maltreating and only arresting Muslims as some claimed and petitioned. And the issue of releasing suspected Christian should not come up because if under age were arrested in their houses without weapons or army uniform, how would you expect them to be taken to Kaduna 7 Also, who selected all the under aged Christians and Muslims youths on 12th May, 20147 Go to the Police station and confirm it, we were eye witnesses to what happened there and stop shouting that they took 44 Muslim youths to Kaduna. Please stop fueling trouble for us in Kachia.
d. The local government chairman is carrying aU religions along. This crisis was not erupted as a result of the failure of the local government chairman from fulfilling his promise. The fence was rebuilt after our sitting on 10th April, 2014. If the Muslims saw it as a failure on the part of the chairmanr then they were the people who went and removed the few blocks on 11th May 2014 to use it as a stepping stone to exterminate Christians in Kachia but mind you, even with the few blocks remove, the chairman asked for immediate replacement which was done yet the Muslims went ahead to destroy Christians. Is it all for unfulfi Hed promise?
e. The security agents insisted on telling us that they work without religion sentiment or bias, we the Christians discover this never to be true. Presently in kachia and with the recent posting we noticed that there is religion sentiment in the security force because; the commandant of NASA is a Muslim, the Deputy commandant NASA is a Muslim, the Commandant Rehap Centre is a Muslim, the newly posted SSS director is a Muslim, the D.P.O Katari Division is a Muslim and in the recent posting except it is changed the suppose incoming D.P.O is a Muslim.
CAN has observed with interest the recent postings done by the commissioner of police Kaduna state which include the D.P.O Kachia Division with suspicion. Would there be a need for questioning the true intention of the security operatives in Kachia been headed by this structure, are they probably setting up what we the Christian community in Kachia need to know?
f. Let our Muslim brothers try by all means to tell the truth. In a press release by the Muslim community of Kachia after the crisis and a publication in The Daily Sun of Friday June 13 2014/pg/34 stated:
i. That only four (4) Muslim members out of twenty three (23) were appointed in the committee of inquiry set by the chairman of the LG council. It is not true; from the entire set up the Muslims have seven (7) members representing them. It means that the chairman is very loving and fair.
ii. The Muslim community requesting for the creation of Hausa/Fulani chiefdom in Kachia is a gross mischief as seen by the Christian community. Crisis cannot be framed in order to create chiefdom. It means that the destruction of the Eid fence was done all these times by the Muslim to create an end so as to meet a need. The Christians should not be use to look for a chiefdom. We Christians need peace. Every tribe, religion or people leaving in Kachia met the Adara people here, and all of us are under his Royal Highness, therefore, if the Hausa/Fulani are looking for a chiefdom from Adara chiefdom in Kachia L.G.A, for the sake of peace we say, let it be given to all the tribes and ethnic groups dwelling in Kachia like the Igbos, Yorubas, Marwa, Tiv, Idoma, Jaba, At yap, Ogoja etc. But let no one cause crisis and begin to look for chiefdom using us we say NO to this. The so called Emirate or Chiefdom they are looking for, can the Adara people or any peoples’
group demand for such in Zaria Emirate, Sokoto Emirate, Brinin Gwari Emirate or it Kano Emirate and be given? Why is that if a set of people are ruling there is peace A but if they are being ruled it becomes a problem? Can peace be given a chance that we may live well!
g. That the accusation lay on the Christians resident around the Eid ground as those who destroyed the fence should stop as some media are portraying. Anybody anywhere can do that since from all indication the attack on the Christians was a premeditated one with an intention/motive.
4.0 OUR STAND AND RECOMMENDATION: stand and recommendations:
a. That a high powered committee be set up by His Excellency Alhj. Dr. Muktar Ramallan Yero to investigate the current problems and happenings amongst the different dwellers of Kachia, to proffer solutions on the way forward for peaceful and harmonious coexistence of all dwellers.
b. That due compensation should be made to all affected persons, they never asked for it and should not be made to suffer for the irresponsibility of others.
c. The Eid ground should be relocated to a ground where it will not be used as a mark for instigating crisis, because miscreants can still go and pull down the fence and still accuse the Christians for doing it. For instance, the Deeper Life Bible Church had suffered a worst situation in the hands of the Muslim youths but as a peace loving people they sort the consent of their leaders and did not raised an eye brow after a concerted effort to remain there failed, they dusted the dust on their feet’s, bought a new place and vacated their premise. It is worth noting to state that after the crisis the Muslim youths went and hack down the old Church Why must they do that if there is need for peace as proclaimed?
d. The commissioner of police should as a matter of technicality withdraw his maction. It will be incredible to have you post out an officer in the midst of inquiry if the intention is not to distort facts.
e. The Market should be relocated to a neutral ground, where miscreants will not take advantage of its position to enrich themselves via instigating crisis, to serve as a vehicle for unleashing their terror on the economy of Christians. Christians are known to live solely on their hard earned money not depending on looting to enrich themselves.
f. The Fulani should as a matter of peace cease from their attacks on the Christians in all villages. For this is the only sure way to peace.
g. The government of our State under the leadership of our Governor should assist in putting back the Church that was destroyed to enable worshippers carry on with their activities.
We sincerely appreciate the Executive Chairman of the Local Government Hon. Peter Agite for all the effort he has put from the day one of this crisis till date including the Member of State House of Assembly, the Agom Adara, Stakeholders and all. God bless you.
We hereby appreciate the Governor of Kaduna state His Excellency Alh. Dr. Muktar Ramallan Vero (DaIJatun Zazzau) for his love and concern towards the people of Kachia local Government and for bearing with us. Thank you.
5.0 CONCLUSION:
The quest for chiefdom, the lootings, the already Sown military uniforms, sophisticated weapons crowned by the intentional damage of the Eid wall suggest that the crisis was stage, managed and it is a premeditated action and it is clear that it was stage using Christian and the name religious crisis to look for Chiefdom or Emirate. Therefore, Christians should not be mentioned for breaking the Eid fence. Furthermore, Christians did not attack their Muslim brothers, rather we were attacked.
Like Christ, we shall always live peacefully with our neighbours (Romans 12: 18)
